Acura has confirmed that the RDX nameplate will continue: a fourth-generation RDX Hybrid is in development, and it will be the brand’s first model to use a two-motor hybrid system. The current RDX is scheduled to suspend production in 2026, but Acura has not announced the successor’s exact arrival date, price, or vehicle-specific performance and fuel-economy figures.
Will the next Acura RDX be a hybrid?
Yes. American Honda said on January 14, 2026, that the next-generation RDX is under development and will feature Acura’s first application of a two-motor hybrid system. Acura later identified the upcoming vehicle as the fourth-generation RDX Hybrid, tying it to the brand’s future design direction in an August 7, 2026 announcement.
That confirms the RDX is not being discontinued as a nameplate. It does not, however, confirm the final production vehicle’s design or technical specifications. Acura and Honda have not yet published RDX-specific horsepower, torque, battery capacity, fuel economy, drivetrain configuration, trims, or towing capacity.
When is the RDX Hybrid coming out?
There is no confirmed on-sale date or model year. Honda’s January announcement said the next-generation RDX would reach market “within the next couple of years”; Acura’s August statement says the fourth-generation RDX Hybrid will arrive “in the coming years.” Neither phrase establishes a guaranteed dealer date or a specific model year.

The current-generation RDX, introduced in 2018, is scheduled to suspend production in 2026, according to American Honda. That creates the possibility of a gap before the successor arrives; the company has not specified how long it might last.
What does Honda’s hybrid plan add to the picture?
The RDX announcement is part of a broader corporate hybrid push, not a promise of a particular RDX launch date. In its May 14, 2026 business briefing, Honda Motor Co. said launches of next-generation hybrid models using an all-new system and platform would begin in 2027. Honda plans 15 such models globally by the end of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2030, primarily in North America. Those figures describe Honda’s overall program, not 15 RDX versions.

Honda’s briefing materials also cite a fuel-economy improvement of more than 10% for its next-generation e:HEV models. That is a program-level claim, not an estimate or guarantee for the RDX Hybrid. The company has described changes intended to improve the system’s efficiency, including expanding the range in which the engine operates most efficiently and increasing hybrid-unit driving efficiency.
Is the Acura Hybrid SUV Prototype the next RDX?
Honda showed an “Acura Hybrid SUV Prototype” during its May briefing and said production models based on the prototypes were scheduled to launch within two years. American Honda described the prototype as previewing one of the planned Honda and Acura hybrid models. The cited announcement does not explicitly identify that prototype as the production RDX, so treating it as an RDX preview remains an inference. Acura’s separate confirmation of a fourth-generation RDX Hybrid is the direct evidence that the nameplate is getting a hybrid successor.

Should you buy a current RDX or wait?
The practical decision depends on whether you need a vehicle before the next RDX arrives. The current RDX is the option with a defined near-term availability; the successor’s schedule and specifications remain unannounced. If you can wait, you may prefer to see the production RDX Hybrid’s confirmed equipment, price, and timing before deciding, but there is not enough official information to quantify a fuel-saving or performance advantage over the current model.
- Consider a current RDX if you need a vehicle on a known timetable and are comfortable buying the outgoing generation.
- Consider waiting if a hybrid powertrain is essential to your next vehicle and your plans can accommodate an uncertain launch window.

American Honda reported nearly 740,000 cumulative U.S. RDX sales since the model debuted in 2006 in its January 14, 2026 outlook. That is manufacturer-reported history, not an indication of the successor’s launch timing.
