The eight SUVs anticipated for 2025 were not all equally real: seven had manufacturer-backed 2025 model-year or production evidence, while the Chevrolet Corvette SUV remained an unconfirmed rumor. The confirmed group ranged from the roughly $40,000 Nissan Murano and Toyota 4Runner to luxury EVs and full-size SUVs costing $70,000 or more.
This retrospective separates what the original December 30, 2024 article predicted from what manufacturers actually announced, while keeping 2025 prices and specifications distinct from later model years.
What the 2025 SUV list got right—and wrong
The original list identified seven real 2025-model-year SUVs or production vehicles: the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz G 580, Jeep Wagoneer S, Cadillac OPTIQ, Infiniti QX80, Toyota 4Runner, and Nissan Murano. The Chevrolet Corvette SUV was the exception. It was an attention-grabbing possibility, not a Chevrolet-confirmed 2025 product.
That distinction matters because the source article was published on December 30, 2024, when several of these vehicles were still new or arriving. Looking back from August 12, 2026, most of the anticipated models did reach production or the market, although some manufacturer websites have moved on to newer model years. Prices below are therefore historical 2025 launch or model-year figures—not necessarily what a dealer charges today.

The eight anticipated SUVs at a glance
| SUV | What it represented | 2025 price position | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toyota 4Runner | Mainstream off-road SUV with available hybrid power | From about $41,270 | Yes |
| Nissan Murano | Mainstream two-row midsize SUV with an upscale cabin | About $40,470 at launch | Yes |
| BMW X3 | Premium compact SUV | Approximately mid-$50,000s, depending on configuration | Yes |
| Cadillac OPTIQ | Entry-level luxury electric crossover | About $54,000 at launch, including destination | Yes |
| Jeep Wagoneer S | Performance-oriented premium electric crossover | From $70,200 for Launch Edition | Yes |
| Infiniti QX80 | Full-size, three-row luxury SUV | From $82,450 before destination | Yes |
| Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology | Ultra-luxury electric off-roader | Ultra-luxury pricing; verify by model year | Yes |
| Chevrolet Corvette SUV | Speculative performance SUV | No verifiable price | No official 2025 confirmation |
This is not an evenly spaced price ladder. The list begins around $40,000, jumps into premium and luxury territory, and includes one vehicle with no confirmed price at all. “For every budget” is best understood as a broad marketing frame rather than a literal category for every income level.
1. 2025 BMW X3: the premium compact all-rounder
The fourth-generation BMW X3 was one of the safest predictions on the original list. It was confirmed as a 2025 model-year vehicle, with production of the U.S. model beginning in August 2024. BMW gave the X3 a new exterior, a 187.2-inch body, a curved display layout, updated infotainment, and available xDrive all-wheel drive.
The entry-level U.S. X3 30 xDrive uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 255 horsepower. It also uses 48-volt mild-hybrid technology. That is an important clarification: this is not a plug-in hybrid and cannot be treated like an electric vehicle for charging or electric-only driving. BMW listed a preliminary 0–60-mph time of 6.0 seconds for the X3 30 xDrive.
At the top of the initial range, the X3 M50 xDrive produces 393 horsepower and has a preliminary 0–60-mph time of 4.4 seconds. Those are manufacturer preliminary figures, not independent test results.
Who should consider it?
The X3 suits buyers who want a compact SUV with premium materials, strong road manners, all-weather traction, and more performance than a typical family crossover. Its main compromises are the premium price, potentially expensive options, and the fact that the mild-hybrid system does not provide the EV ownership experience some shoppers may expect from the word hybrid.
Budget position: approximately the mid-$50,000 range for a 2025 X3 30 xDrive, depending on configuration and destination charges. Later BMW pages may show different model years and prices.
2. Chevrolet Corvette SUV: the list’s unconfirmed wild card
The Corvette SUV attracted attention because it would have given Chevrolet a direct performance-oriented rival to vehicles such as the Porsche Cayenne, Lamborghini Urus, and high-performance electric SUVs. The original article speculated about a compact or midsize SUV, possible four-cylinder or V8 power, and a starting price near $60,000.
None of those details should be treated as specifications. The Chevrolet material reviewed for this article continued to present Corvette as a coupe and convertible sports-car family, including the Corvette E-Ray. It did not confirm a Corvette SUV’s production schedule, body style, engine lineup, price, or launch date.

That makes the Corvette SUV a watch-list rumor rather than a 2025 buying recommendation. If Chevrolet eventually announces one, its positioning could change substantially from the early speculation. Until then, a claimed engine or price is conjecture.
Budget position: impossible to verify. There was no official 2025 Corvette SUV MSRP.
3. Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology: electric power in an ultra-luxury off-roader
The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology was officially introduced as the electric G-Class for the 2025 model year. It retains the G-Class’s boxy, highly recognizable shape but replaces its conventional powertrain with four individually controlled electric motors.
Mercedes-Benz lists 579 combined horsepower, 859 lb-ft of torque, and a 116-kWh battery. The four-motor layout enables sophisticated torque management at each wheel, including off-road functions designed around the vehicle’s electric drivetrain. Mercedes also claims the G 580 can climb a 100% grade.

Range and charging results vary with temperature, speed, terrain, wheel choice, and charging conditions, so the EPA figure should not be interpreted as a guaranteed road-trip distance.
Who should consider it?
The G 580 is for buyers who want the design, presence, and off-road identity of a G-Class but prefer an electric powertrain. It is not a sensible value alternative to the 4Runner or a typical family EV. Its electric range is modest relative to some lower-priced electric crossovers, and its purchase price places it firmly in ultra-luxury territory.
Budget position: ultra-luxury electric SUV. Verify the applicable U.S. model-year price sheet because availability and pricing can change as later model years replace the original 2025 information.
4. Jeep Wagoneer S: a fast premium electric crossover
The 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S became Jeep’s confirmed all-electric SUV and one of the quickest vehicles in the group. The Launch Edition uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system and produces 600 horsepower. Jeep gives it a maximum 0–60-mph time of 3.4 seconds and up to 294 miles of estimated range.
Trim level matters here. The Launch Edition is rated at 600 horsepower, while the Limited version is listed at 500 horsepower. The Launch Edition starts at $70,200 before options, taxes, incentives, and other transaction costs.
The Wagoneer S also uses Jeep’s Selec-Terrain system, with Auto, Snow, Sand, Sport, and ECO modes. It has a screen-heavy cabin and a more premium presentation than Jeep’s mainstream compact SUVs. However, it should not be confused with the much larger gasoline-powered Wagoneer. The Wagoneer S is a premium electric crossover/SUV, not a full-size three-row Wagoneer replacement.
Who should consider it?
It is a strong fit for shoppers who want sports-car acceleration, all-wheel-drive traction, a luxurious interior, and electric operation in one vehicle. It is less suitable for someone who needs maximum towing, a third row, or traditional Jeep trail hardware comparable to a Wrangler or specialized 4Runner.
Budget position: roughly $65,000–$70,000 before options, destination, tax, and incentives, depending on trim and model-year pricing.

5. Cadillac OPTIQ: the entry point to Cadillac’s EV range
Cadillac revealed the 2025 OPTIQ on May 29, 2024, positioning it as an entry point to the brand’s electric lineup. It is a compact luxury crossover with standard dual-motor all-wheel drive, a large 33-inch display, and standard Super Cruise. Cadillac announced an estimated 302-mile range and an estimated starting price of about $54,000 including destination but excluding taxes and dealer fees.
Because Cadillac initially described the range as an estimate, it should not be presented as a permanent final specification without checking the applicable EPA label or current model-year documentation. The same caution applies to launch pricing: a 2025 announcement price does not automatically describe a later model year.
Production was scheduled to begin in late 2024, making the OPTIQ a genuine 2025-market vehicle rather than merely a concept. Its appeal came from combining a relatively accessible luxury price with all-wheel drive, a modern cabin, and hands-free driver-assistance capability on compatible roads through Super Cruise.
Who should consider it?
The OPTIQ is a logical choice for buyers moving up from a mainstream crossover who want an EV with a premium badge and substantial highway-assistance technology. Compare charging access, rear-seat space, cargo capacity, and the terms of connected services before assuming it is the best value in the luxury-EV class.
Budget position: around the mid-$50,000 range at launch, making it one of the more accessible luxury EVs in this group.
6. 2025 Infiniti QX80: full-size luxury and serious towing
The redesigned 2025 Infiniti QX80 was the list’s full-size, three-row luxury SUV. Its mission is different from that of the compact X3, OPTIQ, or two-row Murano: it provides substantial passenger and cargo space, a high-end cabin, and the ability to tow.
Infiniti’s new twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 produces up to 450 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. The 2025 model is rated to tow up to 8,500 pounds in applicable configurations. Those figures make the QX80 one of the more useful choices here for a large family that also pulls a substantial trailer.
Official 2025 specification material listed a $82,450 starting MSRP for the PURE 2WD trim and $89,550 for the LUXE 2WD trim, both before destination. Well-equipped versions can exceed $100,000, especially after adding higher trims and options.

Choose the QX80 if three-row space, towing capacity, quiet luxury, and a powerful gasoline engine matter more than fuel economy or electric driving. It is a poor fit for shoppers seeking a compact footprint, low operating costs, or a low purchase price. Its $85,000-ish positioning in the original article was directionally accurate, but MSRP, destination, options, taxes, and dealer charges should always be separated.
7. 2025 Toyota 4Runner: the accessible adventure SUV
The sixth-generation 2025 Toyota 4Runner was a confirmed redesign and one of the most practical entries for buyers who wanted genuine off-road capability without moving into luxury-SUV pricing. Toyota listed a $41,270 starting MSRP on its 2025 model page.
Rank #4
The new 4Runner is available with 2WD, part-time 4WD, or full-time 4WD depending on configuration. Toyota also offered up to seven seats, an eight-speed automatic transmission, a more muscular body, updated technology, a power rear window, and available Multi-Terrain Monitor equipment. Trailhunter and TRD Pro versions target more serious off-road use.
Applicable hybrid configurations produce up to 326 net combined horsepower. Toyota listed up to 23 mpg combined estimated fuel economy, although the exact rating depends on powertrain, drivetrain, trim, tires, and equipment. The source article’s description of a new turbocharged engine, stronger off-road focus, and upgraded cabin technology was therefore broadly accurate.

The 4Runner is the strongest fit for buyers who regularly travel rough roads, want a high driving position, need available three-row seating, or value Toyota’s adventure-oriented design. It is not automatically the best family SUV for everyone: its off-road hardware can bring ride, fuel-economy, noise, and price trade-offs compared with a softer two-row crossover.
Budget position: low-$40,000 starting point, with hybrid, TRD Pro, Trailhunter, and other specialized trims reaching considerably higher.
Adventure-focused buyers should also budget for the way they intend to use the vehicle. For example, SUV roof rack crossbars can support bikes, kayaks, skis, luggage, or a rooftop box, but the correct system depends on the 4Runner’s model year, roof-rail or mounting-point design, bar length, and dynamic roof-load limit; verify every fitment detail before buying.
If enclosed storage is more useful than an open rack, a rooftop cargo carrier can add weather-protected capacity, but it still requires compatible crossbars, adequate roof-load ratings, and attention to overall vehicle height. It is optional equipment—not a reason to choose one SUV over another.
8. 2025 Nissan Murano: a more upscale two-row family crossover
The 2025 Nissan Murano was a confirmed redesign aimed at buyers who wanted a comfortable, stylish two-row midsize SUV rather than a rugged off-roader. Nissan listed the 2025 model at approximately $40,470 at launch, although later pricing pages may show another model year or a different figure.
For 2025, the Murano used a 2.0-liter variable-compression turbocharged four-cylinder producing 241 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. It was available with front-wheel drive or intelligent all-wheel drive and used a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The cabin received much of the attention. Nissan listed a 12.3-inch digital dashboard, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, available Google built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, massaging front seats on higher trims, and an available Bose audio system. Premium versions also emphasized quilted leather and surround-view camera technology.
What the original prediction got wrong
The source article floated the possibility of a V6 or a future electric variant. The official 2025 specifications did not support that prediction: the redesigned 2025 Murano used the 2.0-liter VC-Turbo four-cylinder. Buyers should not carry the speculative V6 or EV description into a factual 2025 buying guide.

Who should consider it?
The Murano is one of the most approachable choices here for a family that wants a comfortable, design-forward two-row SUV with modern infotainment. It is less appropriate for serious off-roading, heavy towing, or buyers who need a third row. Its starting price was close to the 4Runner’s, but the two vehicles serve very different purposes.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How the eight choices break down by budget
About $40,000 to $45,000: Nissan Murano and Toyota 4Runner
The Murano and 4Runner were the list’s mainstream entry points. Pick the Murano for road comfort, a refined interior, and two-row crossover duty. Pick the 4Runner for ground clearance, available four-wheel-drive hardware, adventure equipment, and the option of a hybrid powertrain. Neither starting price represents a highly equipped version.
About $54,000 to the mid-$50,000s: Cadillac OPTIQ and BMW X3
The OPTIQ brings electric power, standard dual-motor all-wheel drive, and Super Cruise to the entry-luxury segment. The X3 is the conventional premium compact alternative, with a mild-hybrid gasoline powertrain, available xDrive, and a performance-oriented M50 version. The choice largely comes down to charging access and EV preference versus gasoline convenience and BMW driving performance.
About $70,000: Jeep Wagoneer S
The Wagoneer S occupies the performance-EV middle ground. It is dramatically quicker than the mainstream entries and offers nearly 300 miles of estimated range, but it is not a three-row utility vehicle and does not replace the larger gasoline Wagoneer.
$80,000 and above: Infiniti QX80 and Mercedes-Benz G 580
The QX80 is the practical luxury choice if space, three rows, and towing are priorities. The G 580 is the statement vehicle: an electric G-Class with four motors and serious off-road credentials. Neither belongs in a value-SUV comparison, and G 580 pricing should be checked against the relevant model year rather than inferred from a general 2025 list.
No confirmed budget: Chevrolet Corvette SUV
The Corvette SUV cannot be placed on the price ladder because Chevrolet did not establish that it was a 2025 production model. Treat it as a future-product rumor, not as an alternative to any of the confirmed SUVs.
Important buying cautions for a 2025-model-year comparison
- Check the model year first. Manufacturer sites now commonly prioritize 2026 or 2027 vehicles. A current price is not automatically a 2025 price.
- Separate MSRP from transaction cost. Destination charges, options, taxes, registration, dealer fees, incentives, and market adjustments can materially change the amount paid.
- Distinguish estimates from test results. The OPTIQ’s range was announced as an estimate, the Wagoneer S range is an estimate, and BMW’s acceleration figures were preliminary. EPA ratings and independent testing are not interchangeable.
- Compare trims, not just nameplates. The Wagoneer S’s 600 horsepower belongs to the Launch Edition, while the Limited is rated at 500 horsepower. The 4Runner’s drivetrain, seating, fuel economy, and off-road equipment vary substantially by trim.
- Match the vehicle to the job. The Murano is a comfortable two-row crossover; the 4Runner is an adventure-oriented SUV; the QX80 is a large luxury tow vehicle; and the electric models require dependable charging access.
EV ownership details worth checking
The OPTIQ, Wagoneer S, and G 580 make up the list’s electric group, but a claimed range figure is only one part of the ownership decision. Before buying, confirm the vehicle’s charging connector, home electrical requirements, maximum AC and DC charging rates, public-charging access, and warranty terms for the exact trim.
A portable EV charger can be useful as backup or travel equipment, but it does not replace a professionally evaluated and installed home charger. Connector compatibility, outlet type, amperage, cable length, and the vehicle’s own charging limits must all match. Treat it as optional contingency equipment rather than assuming it will deliver fast charging anywhere.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which SUVs on this list were actually confirmed for 2025?
Seven entries had manufacturer-backed evidence as announced or production vehicles: the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz G 580, Jeep Wagoneer S, Cadillac OPTIQ, Infiniti QX80, Toyota 4Runner, and Nissan Murano. The Chevrolet Corvette SUV was not officially confirmed for 2025 in the Chevrolet material reviewed.
Was the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette SUV real?
No. Chevrolet’s official Corvette material reviewed for this article continued to describe Corvette coupe and convertible models, including the E-Ray. It did not establish a Corvette SUV production schedule, engine, price, or 2025 launch.
Which SUV on the list was the most affordable?
The Toyota 4Runner and Nissan Murano were the least expensive entries, starting at approximately $41,270 and $40,470 respectively based on 2025 model-year or launch pricing. The OPTIQ and BMW X3 were around the mid-$50,000 range, while the Wagoneer S, QX80, and G 580 occupied increasingly expensive premium and luxury segments.
The Bottom Line
The 2025 list was broadly successful at identifying major new SUVs, but it mixed confirmed vehicles with one rumor and stretched the meaning of “every budget.” The Toyota 4Runner and Nissan Murano were the accessible choices; the BMW X3 and Cadillac OPTIQ formed the premium middle; the Wagoneer S added electric performance; and the QX80 and G 580 occupied luxury territory. The Corvette SUV belongs on a watch list, not on a 2025 shopping list.
