2024 Tesla Roadster: Everything We Know So Far

Tesla’s second-generation Roadster is still marketed but not confirmed in production. Here are its claimed specifications, conflicting range figures, delays, reservation terms, and current status.

Short answer: As of August 12, 2026, the second-generation Tesla Roadster is officially marketed but is not confirmed to be in customer production or delivery. Tesla still advertises remarkable targets—including 1.9-second 0–60 mph acceleration, a top speed above 250 mph, and range of either 620 or 1,000 miles depending on the Tesla page—but the car has missed multiple public target dates and its production specifications remain unverified.

The title’s “2024” label is now historical rather than current. Tesla unveiled this successor in November 2017 as the “2020 Roadster.” It is more accurate today to call it a long-delayed, still-unreleased electric sports car.

What is the current status of the 2024 Tesla Roadster?

The second-generation Tesla Roadster is still officially marketed, but it is not confirmed to be in customer production or delivery as of August 12, 2026. Tesla continues to present it as an upcoming electric sports car and offers a reservation or update-signup path, yet the program has missed several public target dates.

That makes the title 2024 Tesla Roadster historically useful but technically outdated. Tesla unveiled this car in November 2017 as the 2020 Roadster. It did not become a 2020 model, a confirmed 2024 model, or a delivered 2025 model. The most accurate description today is a long-delayed, still-unreleased successor to Tesla’s first-generation Roadster.

Tesla Roadster advertised specifications

The following figures come from Tesla’s own marketing pages. They should be read as advertised targets or claims, not as a finalized production specification. Tesla’s U.S. page and its Puerto Rico page also show materially different range figures.

Item Tesla’s advertised or listed figure What to know
Powertrain All-electric This is the vehicle’s stated propulsion type.
Seats Four Tesla markets the Roadster as a four-seat sports car rather than a two-seat exotic.
Drive system All-wheel drive The production hardware and final configuration have not been established in the reviewed material.
Roof Removable glass roof Tesla says the roof can be stored in the trunk.
0–60 mph 1.9 seconds Not independently verified in a customer-production vehicle.
Top speed More than 250 mph An advertised target, not a verified production-car result.
Range 620 miles on Tesla’s U.S. page Tesla’s Puerto Rico page lists 1,000 miles instead, creating a significant unresolved discrepancy.
Wheel torque 10,000 Nm on Tesla’s Puerto Rico page Tesla does not present this figure consistently across the reviewed pages, and it has not been independently validated here.
Quarter mile 8.8 seconds on Tesla’s Puerto Rico page An advertised claim rather than an independently reproduced production-car time.
Reservation amount $50,000 shown on Tesla’s Puerto Rico page This is not a confirmed final purchase price and may reflect a market-specific page or program version.

The range claims are not interchangeable

Tesla’s U.S. Roadster page lists a claimed 620 miles of range, while a Tesla Puerto Rico Roadster page lists 1,000 miles. Those are not minor differences caused by rounding. They indicate that Tesla’s public pages do not currently provide one consistent global specification set.

Until Tesla publishes a finalized production specification and identifies the applicable test cycle, market, battery configuration, and vehicle equipment, neither number should be presented as the confirmed range of a production Roadster. The same caution applies to the 1.9-second acceleration, 250-plus-mph top speed, 8.8-second quarter-mile claim, and 10,000 Nm wheel-torque figure.

Important specifications Tesla has not finalized publicly

The reviewed material does not establish a final battery capacity, motor-output figure, curb weight, charging specification, connector configuration, wheel and tire fitment, production interior specification, or homologated performance test result. A concept-car number can change before certification, and a market-specific web page is not a substitute for a production data sheet.

Why the Roadster is still called a 2024 model

The 2024 label comes from an older target window rather than a delivered model year. Tesla’s second-generation Roadster was shown in November 2017 with an announced 2020 production goal. That target passed without customer production.

In 2024, Elon Musk said the production design was complete, that a reveal was expected by the end of that year, and that first deliveries were expected in 2025. Those milestones were not met according to the later reporting reviewed. The car therefore should not be described as an available 2024 Tesla model.

Tesla Roadster delay timeline

Date or period Announcement or reported milestone What can be established now
November 2017 Tesla unveiled the second-generation Roadster and described it as the 2020 Roadster. The vehicle was presented as a future production sports car.
2020 The original production target. No customer-production Roadster resulted from that target.
2024 Musk said the production design was complete, with a reveal expected by the end of 2024 and deliveries expected in 2025. Those stated milestones passed without the confirmed launch and deliveries described in the reviewed evidence.
November 2025 Tesla publicly targeted April 1, 2026, for a production-specification reveal. This was an executive or company target, not proof of a completed reveal.
April 2026 Musk said the company could debut the car in a month or so. Reporting still emphasized that testing and validation were required.
June 2026 Media reports said the demonstration had moved toward August and discussed SpaceX-related propulsion or thruster work. The reviewed sources do not establish that a production reveal or customer delivery had occurred by August 12, 2026.

These events should not be flattened into a simple launch schedule. There are three different levels of evidence: Tesla’s current web-page claims, executive target dates, and verified production or delivery evidence. The first category remains visible on Tesla’s website. The reviewed material does not establish the third.

Is the Tesla Roadster in production?

There is no confirmed start date for volume production in the reviewed evidence. Tesla’s Q2 2026 investor-relations materials report deliveries under the broad category Other Models, but do not identify Roadster production or Roadster deliveries. The available production-and-delivery table therefore cannot be used to claim that the Roadster entered customer production.

The careful status label is:

Officially marketed and apparently still under development; production and deliveries unconfirmed.

It would be premature to call the Roadster cancelled while Tesla’s official page remains live. It would be equally misleading to say that it is launching soon as a fact, because multiple public target dates have passed without a firm, verified customer-delivery schedule.

What is the SpaceX package?

Elon Musk has repeatedly suggested that the Roadster could receive an unusually advanced SpaceX-associated package. Media reports have described possible rocket-thruster concepts and have connected the idea with the car’s extreme acceleration and dramatic demonstration possibilities.

However, the reviewed material does not provide a finalized engineering specification, production configuration, safety certification, or verified demonstration of flight, hovering, or rocket-assisted driving. References to a flying car, a hovering Roadster, thrusters, or a James Bond-style feature should therefore be treated as an executive teaser or reported concept—not a confirmed feature that buyers can order.

What would need to happen before those claims were production facts?

  • Tesla would need to identify the exact hardware and configuration included in a production vehicle.
  • The system would need to be demonstrated in a repeatable, documented vehicle test rather than only described publicly.
  • The relevant safety, regulatory, and operational requirements would need to be addressed in each market where the system is offered.
  • Tesla would need to show that the technology is compatible with a normal customer vehicle, not only a special demonstration prototype.

Until then, the SpaceX package is part of the Roadster story, but not part of a confirmed buyer specification.

Price, reservations, and what a reservation actually means

Tesla’s reservation language is important because a reservation can look more final than it is. Tesla’s current terms say that a reservation secures an approximate priority for configuring and ordering the vehicle. They also state that it is not a purchase or vehicle order.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The terms say the final purchase price will be confirmed after configuration because options, features, and hardware are not yet fully confirmed. A reservation does not establish that Tesla has assigned a vehicle identification number, scheduled a build, set a delivery appointment, or accepted a final customer order.

Figure or action How it should be understood
Roadster update signup An expression of interest or request for future information, not a vehicle order.
Reservation A place in an approximate priority process under Tesla’s terms; not a completed sale or guaranteed delivery.
$50,000 shown on Tesla’s Puerto Rico page A market-specific amount displayed on that page; not a confirmed global price or final U.S. MSRP.
$9,900 Reservation Step 1 in a Tesla-hosted U.S. agreement A fee identified in that agreement, alongside a then-current $109,000 base price. The document also says taxes, fees, destination charges, and options are excluded.
$109,000 base price in that U.S. agreement A then-current listed base price, not a promise that the eventual production Roadster will cost that amount.
Final purchase price Not established. Tesla says it may change the base price and options before delivery.

The $50,000 amount shown on the Puerto Rico page should not be combined with the $9,900 U.S. Reservation Step 1 fee or treated as a universal deposit. Tesla’s own pages and agreements show that reservation language and displayed amounts can vary by market, page version, or stage of the program.

Should you reserve one?

A reservation may make sense for an enthusiast who is comfortable with an uncertain schedule, changing specifications, and unsettled pricing. It is not a sensible substitute for a confirmed order if you need a car by a particular date or want to know the final price and equipment before committing money.

Before submitting anything, read the current terms for the exact market and page you are using. In particular, confirm the amount being charged, what priority means, whether the terms have changed, and which conditions apply if the vehicle’s specification or launch timing changes. Do not treat the reservation page as proof of imminent delivery.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For reference, the current Tesla Roadster reservation path is informationally useful, but it should be evaluated as a reservation program rather than as evidence of production availability.

Confirmed facts versus unconfirmed claims

Supported by Tesla material Not established by the reviewed evidence
Tesla currently markets the Roadster as an all-electric sports car. A confirmed start date for volume production.
Tesla describes four seats, all-wheel drive, and a removable glass roof. A confirmed first-customer delivery date.
Tesla advertises extreme performance figures, including 1.9 seconds from 0 to 60 mph and a top speed above 250 mph. A finalized production specification matching every 2017 or later claim.
Tesla’s pages provide reservation or update-signup functionality. Independent verification of the advertised acceleration, top speed, range, torque, or quarter-mile time in a customer-production car.
Tesla’s reservation terms say a reservation is not a completed purchase or vehicle order. A verified flying, hovering, or rocket-assisted production vehicle.

What can you actually buy today?

The production Roadster itself is not established as available for normal customer delivery. The more defensible Roadster-related purchase is memorabilia: Tesla’s official shop has listed an officially commissioned Tesla Roadster die-cast model in 1:18 scale, overseen by the Tesla Design Studio.

Shop inventory and price can change, so check the current listing before purchasing. A model car is a collectible connected to the subject—not evidence that the full-size Roadster has entered production. Marketplace availability for an equivalent item should also be verified rather than assumed.

Do not buy accessories on the assumption they fit

The second-generation Roadster does not yet have a confirmed production connector specification, wheel and tire fitment, cabin dimensions, or service-parts catalog in the reviewed material. That means a generic Tesla wall connector, charging cable, tire, floor mat, or other accessory should not be marketed as Roadster-specific.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

First-generation Roadster service documentation applies to a different vehicle. The original car was a separate, Lotus-derived-era product produced from 2008 through the early 2010s. Its parts or service information cannot establish compatibility with the unreleased second-generation car.

How the second-generation Roadster differs from the original

The original Tesla Roadster helped establish Tesla’s early vehicle business as an electric sports car capable of highway use. It was produced from 2008 through the early 2010s and is now a discontinued first-generation vehicle.

The car discussed here is its second-generation successor, unveiled in 2017. Although both carry the Roadster name, they should not be treated as the same platform, product generation, service program, or parts catalog. The original Roadster’s documented history is useful context, but it cannot confirm the new car’s production readiness or technical compatibility.

What evidence would show that the Roadster is finally real as a customer car?

A new reveal alone would not answer every buyer question. The strongest confirmation would be a combination of:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. A production-specification reveal that resolves the conflicting range and performance claims.
  2. Official confirmation of the factory production start and the markets where the vehicle is homologated for sale.
  3. Final pricing, options, equipment, charging details, and warranty information.
  4. Documented production vehicles, rather than only a design prototype or technology demonstrator.
  5. Customer VINs, delivery appointments, and independently reproducible road testing.

Until those signals appear together, the Roadster remains an unusually ambitious advertised product with an unusually long development timeline.

Bottom line for prospective buyers

The 2024 Tesla Roadster is not a delivered 2024 supercar waiting in ordinary dealer inventory. It is the second-generation Roadster, unveiled in 2017 and still shown on Tesla’s website after multiple missed target windows.

Tesla’s advertised package remains striking: four seats, all-wheel drive, a removable glass roof, a claimed 1.9-second 0–60 mph time, a top speed above 250 mph, and range figures of either 620 or 1,000 miles depending on the Tesla page. None of those extreme production-car results has been independently established in the reviewed evidence.

For now, treat the Roadster as officially marketed and apparently still under development. A reservation is not a purchase, a $50,000 market-specific amount is not a universal final price, and SpaceX-related thruster ideas are not confirmed production equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 2024 Tesla Roadster available now?

No. Tesla continues to market the second-generation Roadster, but the reviewed evidence does not confirm volume production, customer deliveries, or a firm delivery date as of August 12, 2026.

What range will the Tesla Roadster have?

Tesla’s U.S. Roadster page lists 620 miles, while a Tesla Puerto Rico page lists 1,000 miles. Because Tesla’s own pages conflict and no production-car test establishes either figure, neither should be treated as a confirmed final range.

Does a Tesla Roadster reservation guarantee a car?

No. Tesla’s reservation terms say a reservation provides approximate priority for configuring and ordering, but is not a purchase or vehicle order. It does not prove that a VIN, build slot, or delivery appointment exists.

How much will the Tesla Roadster cost?

There is no confirmed universal final price. Tesla’s Puerto Rico page shows a $50,000 reservation amount, while a Tesla-hosted U.S. agreement identified a $9,900 Reservation Step 1 fee and a then-current $109,000 base price, excluding taxes, fees, destination charges, and options. These figures should not be combined or treated as current global pricing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will the Tesla Roadster fly or use rocket thrusters?

Not based on the reviewed evidence. SpaceX-associated thrusters and possible hovering or rocket-assisted driving have been discussed as concepts or executive teasers, but no finalized production specification, safety certification, or verified demonstration has established such a feature.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Tesla still markets the second-generation Roadster, but production, customer deliveries, final specifications, and final pricing remain unconfirmed as of August 12, 2026. The “2024” label is outdated; this is a delayed successor first unveiled in 2017.
