What is the BMW iX4?
BMW describes the iX4 as a fully electric SUV coupé and the third model in its Neue Klasse family, after the iX3 and i3. The name identifies a new body style in that electric lineup: BMW presents the iX4 as combining an SUV’s versatility with a coupé-like roofline. The announcement does not provide cargo-volume or rear-seat headroom measurements, so those practical trade-offs cannot yet be quantified.

BMW’s announced plan is a March 2027 market launch for the 40 xDrive and 50 xDrive, followed by the M60 xDrive. Separately, BMW Germany’s M60 product page says ordering begins in late January 2027. That ordering date is specific to the M60 page and does not establish when orders open in every market or for the other variants.

How do the announced iX4 versions compare?
BMW’s October 2026 announcement gives the following European-market output and maximum-range figures. They are manufacturer-published figures; the announcement’s ranges are not EPA estimates, and they should not be read as independent real-world results.

All figures in the table are BMW claims from its October 8, 2026 announcement, except the M60 order timing, which comes from BMW Germany’s product page. BMW Germany separately displays the M60 at 20.2–17.1 kWh/100 km and 654–777 km WLTP, explicitly marked provisional. Those provisional WLTP figures are not interchangeable with a promise of achieved range in everyday driving.

BMW says the iX4 uses its dedicated Neue Klasse electric architecture, sixth-generation BMW eDrive and 800-volt technology. These are the company’s stated technical foundations for the model; the announcement does not provide charging times or enough detail to quantify charging performance.

BMW describes the exterior with a coupé roofline, long wheelbase and short overhangs, and claims a drag coefficient of 0.23. That is a manufacturer specification, not an independent aerodynamic measurement. BMW of North America’s announcement also specifies a standard M Sport package and full-length panoramic sunroof for its stated US context; it should not be assumed that this equipment is standard in every market.
