For the 2026 U.S. model year, the Toyota Tacoma is the only midsize pickup in this comparison with a verified new manual-transmission option. Toyota offers a six-speed manual on select gas-powered i-FORCE Tacomas; the 2026 Jeep Gladiator’s official U.S. specifications list an eight-speed automatic. The Tacoma’s manual is limited to certain configurations, so check the exact trim and vehicle setup before shopping.
Which new midsize trucks still offer a manual?
Among the current U.S. models covered by the available manufacturer specifications, the Tacoma is the only midsize pickup with a new manual option for 2026. Toyota lists an eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual for the Tacoma, while Jeep lists an eight-speed automatic for the 2026 Gladiator. This is a U.S.- and model-year-specific comparison, not a claim about every market or every pickup worldwide.
| 2026 U.S. model | Manufacturer-listed transmission | What that means for a manual shopper |
|---|---|---|
| Toyota Tacoma | Eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual on select i-FORCE models, according to Toyota | A manual is available, but only on eligible configurations |
| Jeep Gladiator | Eight-speed automatic, according to Jeep’s 2026 specifications | No manual is listed in the cited 2026 U.S. specification |

Which Tacoma trims have a six-speed manual?
Toyota’s manual-transmission overview names the SR, TRD Sport, and TRD Off-Road as manual Tacoma models. Toyota’s broader 2026 materials describe the gearbox as available on select i-FORCE models, and the 2026 brochure shows that equipment varies by grade. Treat the trim names as a starting point, not a guarantee that every combination is offered.

Before placing an order or traveling to a dealer, confirm the exact trim, engine, drivetrain, cab, bed, package, and local inventory. Toyota’s model pages and brochures are useful for narrowing down eligibility, but a particular configuration may not be available in every market or at every dealer.

What engine comes with the manual Tacoma?
The cited manual option is associated with Toyota’s gas i-FORCE powertrain, not the i-FORCE MAX hybrid. Toyota’s 2025 newsroom release for the 2026 Tacoma says the i-FORCE produces up to 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque, and gives an EPA-estimated 26 mpg highway figure. Those are manufacturer-published figures for the powertrain, not a manual-versus-automatic comparison.
The same release lists the i-FORCE MAX hybrid at 326 hp and 465 lb-ft and pairs it with an eight-speed automatic. Thus, shoppers choosing between the cited manual configuration and the hybrid are choosing between different powertrain and transmission combinations, not simply two gearboxes for the same setup.

How to verify a manual Tacoma before buying
- Start with the named grades. Check SR, TRD Sport, and TRD Off-Road, the trims Toyota identifies for the manual, then verify the current model-year configuration on Toyota’s site.
- Confirm the powertrain and transmission. Ensure the listing specifies the gas i-FORCE engine and six-speed manual rather than assuming a trim name alone guarantees it.
- Match the complete vehicle configuration. Ask the dealer to confirm drivetrain, cab, bed, and packages for the specific vehicle or order.
- Check local availability. Verify the vehicle identification details and transmission on the actual window sticker or build documentation. A model-level offering does not establish that a dealer has one in stock.
