The company calls it the most comprehensive update within this S-Class generation, saying more than 50 percent of the car—around 2,700 components—was newly developed, updated or refined. That is Mercedes-Benz’s description of the scale of the work; it does not establish a clean-sheet new generation.
What’s new on the 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?
The update covers exterior design and lighting, vehicle software, driver assistance, comfort, safety and personalization. Mercedes-Benz previewed the car on January 20 and presented it at its world premiere on January 29, 2026. Mercedes-Benz’s January preview and global launch materials describe the changes.
Exterior and lighting
The grille is about 20 percent larger than the predecessor design and has an illuminated surround; an illuminated standing hood star is optional. The twin-star DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps use micro-LED technology. Mercedes-Benz says their high-resolution illumination field is around 40 percent larger than the predecessor system, while the ULTRA RANGE high beam reaches up to 600 metres. These are manufacturer specifications, and lighting equipment can vary by market. The U.S. release describes U.S.-market lighting features separately from the global specifications.
MB.OS and driver assistance
MB.OS is the S-Class’s new operating system and computing platform. Mercedes-Benz says it connects vehicle systems and supports over-the-air updates for numerous functions. The company also announced MB.DRIVE assistance features, but availability is not universal: its global materials say MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO is available in China at market start, with the U.S. to follow later and other markets dependent on regulations. These features do not make the car autonomous.

Comfort and safety
Announced equipment includes a heated seat belt, Digital Vent Control, an electric air filter with ENERGIZING AIR CONTROL, PRE-SAFE Impulse belt pretensioners and up to 15 airbags. Mercedes-Benz also highlighted enhanced AIRMATIC air suspension with intelligent damper regulation in its January preview. These are equipment and technology claims from the manufacturer, not independent comparative test results; fitment may differ by market and configuration.
More ways to personalize
Mercedes-Benz says its MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure program offers more than 150 exterior colors and over 400 interior colors. That describes the manufacturer’s customization range, not a guarantee that every color or combination can be ordered in every market or configuration.
Is the 2026 S-Class a new generation or a facelift?
Mercedes-Benz presents it as a major update within the current S-Class generation, not as a clean-sheet new generation. The company’s claim that more than half the car—around 2,700 components—was newly developed, updated or refined indicates the breadth of the changes, but the manufacturer’s description does not by itself establish a new generation.
What engines will the 2026 S-Class get?
A Mercedes-Benz Group strategy presentation describes an electrified V8 and a long-range plug-in hybrid as part of what it calls the company’s most comprehensive S-Class powertrain update. That presentation signals powertrain direction; it is not a complete retail specification sheet. The available announcements do not establish every engine, output, fuel-economy figure or market configuration. Check the technical specifications for your country before choosing a version.

When can you order the 2026 S-Class?
According to Mercedes-Benz’s global launch materials, online configuration and orders opened on January 30, 2026. Mercedes-Benz USA said production of the new S-Class would begin at Sindelfingen in 2026. That production announcement does not specify every U.S. delivery date; check with Mercedes-Benz in your market or a local dealer for ordering status and timing.

Mercedes-Benz lists a German starting gross price of €121,356.20, including 19 percent VAT, for the S 350 d 4MATIC saloon. This is a Germany-specific price, not a U.S. price or a price that should be assumed for another market. The cited U.S. announcement does not settle final U.S. pricing, so consult Mercedes-Benz USA or a U.S. dealer for current local pricing.

Is the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class the same update?
Mercedes-Benz announced an updated Mercedes-Maybach S-Class separately. Maybach-specific styling, engines and equipment belong to that distinct derivative and should not be taken as specifications for the standard S-Class.
