Yamaha still describes the tank, exposed aluminum frame and side profile as inspired by earlier race bikes, so the change is modernization rather than a break with the XSR’s heritage identity.
What changed on the 2025 Yamaha XSR900?
The most obvious update is a five-inch full-color TFT display, replacing the 2024 model’s 3.5-inch screen. The 2025 display offers four themes, including an analog-style tachometer layout. Yamaha also lists smartphone connectivity, navigation, revised switchgear and controls, updated ergonomics, a new rear shock and a third-generation quickshifter. Yamaha’s 2025 XSR900 features page describes the new equipment.
A larger, connected dashboard
Yamaha says the free Y-Connect app can link a smartphone for notifications, calls and music when used with an aftermarket Bluetooth headset. Turn-by-turn navigation is provided through Garmin StreetCross. These features give the cockpit a contemporary, screen-led feel while the analog-style display theme preserves a visual nod to conventional motorcycle gauges.
Updated controls and rider contact points
The 2025 model gets updated handlebar switches with joystick-style controls, revised turn-signal behavior and a dash-mounted USB-C outlet. Yamaha also lists a revised seat and handlebar shape, rubber-mounted footpegs, a revised shift lever and a clutch lever with 14 adjustment positions.

Revised suspension and quickshifter
The rear suspension uses a fully adjustable KYB monoshock with preload, high- and low-speed compression, and rebound adjustment, paired with revised linkage. Yamaha says it revised the settings of the 41 mm front fork to balance the new rear shock. The third-generation Quick Shift System allows clutchless upshifts and downshifts during acceleration and deceleration.
Electronic rider aids include three preset ride modes—SPORT, STREET and RAIN—along with two custom programs. Yamaha also lists a Back Slip Regulator and Yamaha Variable Speed Limiter.

2024 vs. 2025 Yamaha XSR900
The core identity remains recognizable: Yamaha continues to describe an 890cc crossplane three-cylinder engine and heritage-inspired styling. The meaningful year-over-year changes are concentrated in the display and interface, connectivity, controls, ergonomics, rear suspension and quickshifter description.

The table compares claims on Yamaha’s US model pages; equipment can vary by market, so buyers comparing bikes elsewhere should check the local specification and model year.

2025 XSR900 US specifications and listed price
Yamaha’s US specifications page lists an 890cc liquid-cooled DOHC inline three-cylinder engine, six-speed transmission, 3.7-gallon fuel capacity, 32.1-inch seat height and 432-pound wet weight. Its listed fuel economy is an estimate of 48 mpg, not a guaranteed real-world result. Yamaha notes that specifications can change. See the 2025 XSR900 specifications.
Yamaha’s US model listing shows a $10,599 MSRP and Raven and Heritage White color options. That displayed price excludes tax, title, preparation and destination charges, and Yamaha says actual prices are set by dealers. Check the tire model before buying replacements
Yamaha’s 2025 features page names Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S23 tires, while its specifications page lists Battlax Hypersport S22 tires in 120/70ZR17 front and 180/55ZR17 rear sizes. Because the manufacturer’s pages conflict, neither model should be treated as settled fitment based on those pages alone. Check the market-specific owner documentation and the tire sidewall on the motorcycle before ordering replacements.
What the changes mean for a buyer
If you are considering a 2024 and a 2025, the 2025’s clearest distinction is its five-inch display and more connected interface, backed by updated controls, ergonomics and suspension hardware. Compare the actual bikes and dealer quotes in the same market, and confirm equipment and tire fitment for the specific motorcycle. Yamaha also names MT-09 / XSR900 engine sliders as a featured option; confirm exact year fitment before purchasing protection accessories.
