The catch is that its headline output depends on fuel grade, and its $37,200 starting MSRP is historical—not a guide to what a used example should cost today.
Why the 2025 Carbon Turbo stands out
Mazda positioned the Carbon Turbo as a turbocharged CX-5 trim with its own visual identity, rather than just another equipment package. The manufacturer’s July 2024 announcement listed Zircon Sand Metallic or Rhodium White exterior paint, black contrast trim, and black metallic 19-inch wheels. Inside, the trim combines terracotta leather-trimmed seats with black suede-like inserts, terracotta stitching, and a black headliner. These are Mazda’s published specifications, not observations from an independent test. Mazda’s 2025 CX-5 pricing and packaging announcement also lists wireless phone charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated and ventilated front seats, paddle shifters, and an Active Driving Display. Mazda lists a 360-view monitor and front and rear parking sensors among the turbo models’ equipment.
That combination is the basis for calling the Carbon Turbo a best-kept secret: it brings a distinctive trim treatment and turbo power to a familiar compact crossover. The phrase is an editorial judgment, not a finding that Mazda’s trim is broadly overlooked or universally a better buy.
How much power does the 2025 CX-5 Carbon Turbo make?
Mazda announced two output ratings for the 2025 CX-5 turbo models, depending on fuel. On regular 87-octane fuel, the engine is rated at 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. On premium 93-octane fuel, Mazda quotes 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft. Mazda’s July 2024 release says the Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo “delivers 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque with premium 93 octane fuel”; that maximum should not be presented without the regular-fuel rating and its condition.

Those are manufacturer-published figures, not independent acceleration or road-test results. The available specifications also do not establish comparative fuel economy or operating costs for a 2025 Carbon Turbo.
What did the Carbon Turbo cost when new?
Mazda announced a $37,200 starting MSRP for the 2025 CX-5 2.5 Carbon Turbo in 2024, before destination, taxes, title, and other fees. That is the original manufacturer price, not a current offer or a present-day used-car valuation. A fair used-price judgment would require dated local listings or transaction data and relevant details such as mileage and condition; the announced MSRP cannot answer that question.
How it differs from the 2026 CX-5
The Carbon Turbo belongs to the outgoing CX-5 generation. Mazda’s 2026 CX-5 is an all-new model with a different launch powertrain and a published lineup that does not include a Carbon Turbo. Mazda’s current lineup lists five 2.5 S trims, all introduced with a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder rated at 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft, paired with a six-speed automatic and standard i-Activ AWD. The 2026 prices provide model-year context only. They are not directly comparable to a 2025 Carbon Turbo’s historical MSRP as a measure of today’s value: one is Mazda’s current new-model starting-price range, while the other is an announced price from 2024. Current used listings and transaction prices are not established here. Mazda’s current page gives the 2026 CX-5 an EPA-estimated 24 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined; those figures are for the 2026 model and do not establish a 2025 Carbon Turbo rating.

What to check when considering a used 2025 Carbon Turbo
For a specific used example, verify the model year and trim from the vehicle’s documentation and confirm that its condition, mileage, equipment, and asking price meet your needs. Compare local examples using the same price basis and account for the fuel grade associated with the turbo engine’s quoted output. Mazda’s published MSRP and specifications can help identify the trim and understand its original positioning, but they do not establish reliability, resale value, current market pricing, or how it drives relative to competitors.
