Which Lexus V8 sedan is the 2025 headline about?
It is the Lexus IS 500, a compact, rear-wheel-drive performance sedan. Lexus specifies a 5.0-liter 2UR-GSE V8 producing 472 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque, connected to an eight-speed Sport Direct Shift automatic transmission. Lexus’s 2025 IS 500 Ultimate Edition announcement gives those specifications.
Lexus lists a 0–60 mph time of 4.4 seconds in its brochure. That is a manufacturer-published figure, not an independent test result. Lexus’s IS brochure is the source.
What changes for the 2026 U.S. IS?
Lexus’s announcement for the 2026 U.S. IS lineup lists the IS 350 in F SPORT Design and F SPORT grades. It specifies a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 311 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. The announcement does not list an IS 500. Lexus’s 2026 IS announcement therefore supports saying the V8 is absent from the announced next model-year U.S. lineup.

It does not establish that Lexus has permanently ended all V8 sedans in every market, or that an IS 500 could never return. “Forever” goes beyond what the announcement confirms.
Two limited 2025 IS 500 editions, not one
Lexus announced two distinct editions. Their production limits and identifying details should not be conflated.

The unit limits describe the announced editions; they do not establish what is currently available at dealers. Anyone shopping should confirm a specific car’s edition, condition and history using current listings and vehicle records.

If you want the V8 configuration, the key distinction is between the car Lexus specified for 2025 and the IS models Lexus announced for the U.S. in 2026. The 2025 IS 500 combines a naturally aspirated V8, rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic; the announced 2026 IS 350 instead uses a V6. Lexus has not provided a basis in these announcements for claims about current inventory, resale value or future model plans.
