The early coverage showed the SUV’s exterior, but it did not establish who first shared the images or where they came from. BMW later confirmed the production model on June 18.
When did the 2025 BMW X3 leak?
Contemporary reports described images of the redesigned X3 circulating online on June 7 and June 11, 2024, ahead of BMW’s June 18 announcement. A separate report on June 18 said video of the X3 M50 appeared hours before its world premiere. Those accounts document when the material became public; they do not verify its original source or prove that an employee leaked it.
BMW’s June 18 announcement identified the vehicle as the all-new, fourth-generation 2025 X3. The timing makes the early images a genuine pre-reveal news event, but BMW did not confirm that every detail inferred from those images was accurate.
What did the leaked X3 look like?
The early images gave viewers a first public look at the new X3’s exterior before the official presentation. BMW’s release subsequently described and specified the production vehicle. The distinction matters: the images circulated before the reveal, while the manufacturer’s announcement is the source for confirmed model details and specifications.

BMW listed the 2025 X3 at 187.2 inches long, 75.6 inches wide and 65.4 inches high. Luggage capacity was 31.5 cubic feet, expanding to 67.1 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.
What BMW confirmed about the 2025 X3
BMW announced two US versions: the X3 30 xDrive and the higher-output X3 M50 xDrive. In its 2024 US announcement, BMW gave base MSRPs of $49,500 and $64,100, respectively, plus $1,175 destination and handling for each. These are launch-era US prices, not current pricing or prices for other markets.

BMW also listed an optional trailer hitch with towing capacity of up to 4,850 pounds, depending on model variant. The release said the US and European market launch would begin in the fourth quarter of 2024; that was the planned launch period, not a future announcement.

The early images offered a preview, not a verified account of how the material reached the public. The reporting available at the time did not identify the original uploader, establish a chain of custody or confirm an internal source. One early report also said it could not vouch for the image’s authenticity. BMW’s later production-model announcement confirmed the new X3’s design, but that should not be treated as confirmation of every detail attributed to the earlier images.
