That makes it “forbidden fruit” for American shoppers in the practical sense: Ford’s materials describe European sales and specifications, but do not establish a U.S. launch, U.S. price, or EPA range rating. They also do not prove that importing one is categorically impossible.
Why can’t you buy the Ford Capri EV in the U.S.?
Ford positioned the revived Capri for European markets. The company said the vehicle is assembled at its Cologne Electric Vehicle Center, and its 2024 customer announcement covered deliveries to European dealerships. Ford’s materials reviewed here do not establish a U.S. retail launch or a U.S. order page. Ford of Europe’s July 2024 launch announcement and its October 2024 delivery update describe that European positioning.
That is different from saying a Capri cannot legally enter the United States. The available information does not establish whether a particular car can be imported, whether a U.S.-compliant example exists, or what compliance steps would apply. Treat the car as unavailable through a verified Ford U.S. retail channel unless Ford announces otherwise; do not treat the absence of a U.S. launch as proof of a blanket import ban.
Is the new electric Capri the same as the classic coupe?
No. The modern Capri is a battery-electric sport crossover carrying a historic Ford name, not a return of the original coupe in its old body style. Ford described it as a reinvention of the classic and framed it as a practical family vehicle. In October 2024, Jon Williams, then general manager of Ford Blue and Model e in Europe, called it “the car the iconic sports coupe was destined to become.” That is Ford’s promotional positioning, not an independent assessment. Ford’s announcement also reported European production and early customer configurations.

What were the 2024 launch specifications?
Ford’s July 2024 EU factsheet published the following figures for the Extended Range versions. These are European WLTP figures and manufacturer specifications, not U.S. EPA estimates. WLTP range is a test-cycle figure; it should not be read as a guaranteed real-world distance.

All figures in the table are from Ford of Europe’s July 2024 EU factsheet. The RWD version’s claimed maximum range is higher, while the AWD version is quicker and has a higher maximum DC charging rate; Ford’s stated 10–80% charging time is two minutes shorter for AWD. Those comparisons apply to these launch-era configurations and do not establish U.S. performance or charging results.

Ford listed boot capacity of up to 572 litres in the same factsheet. Its October customer announcement described the boot as offering more than 570 litres. These are manufacturer-reported European specifications, not an independently measured cargo test.
How has the Capri changed since its 2024 launch?
The launch-era figures above are not a timeless specification sheet. In a March 12, 2026 announcement, Ford Europe said it was adding an LFP battery and an enhanced electric motor to Standard Range versions, alongside driver-assistance and infotainment updates and Pro Power Onboard functionality. Ford also announced a limited Capri Collection series. Its release quotes Christian Weingaertner, general manager of passenger vehicles at Ford Europe, describing the Capri as a versatile electric family vehicle. Ford’s March 2026 update is the source for those changes.

Ford Germany’s model page, accessed October 8, 2026, lists three series and displays these German-market range bands: Standard Range, 433–464 km; Extended Range AWD, 539–577 km; and Extended Range RWD, 590–627 km. What did European customers configure in 2024?
In October 2024, Ford of Europe said almost 200,000 consumers had configured a Capri. Ford also reported that 24% chose Vivid Yellow, 55% chose Capri Premium, and 59% selected the 286 PS RWD powertrain. These are early configuration figures reported by the manufacturer, not independent survey results or completed sales. Ford’s October 2024 announcement gives the figures.

What a U.S. shopper can—and cannot—compare
The launch factsheet allows a like-for-like comparison of the two Extended Range European versions on WLTP range, traction, acceleration, battery capacity and charging. A U.S. buyer cannot use it to establish the Capri’s EPA range, U.S. retail price, or U.S. availability: those details are not stated in the Ford sources cited here. Nor should the later German range bands be mixed with the original 2024 figures without identifying their market and date.
Ford France’s 2024 Paris Motor Show announcement likewise describes the Capri as designed for European markets and assembled in Cologne. That reinforces the market context, but it does not settle import eligibility for an individual U.S. buyer. Ford France’s announcement.
