What did the 2020 C8 ZR1 leak claim?
A Torque News report published April 24, 2020, described leaked GM planning information about future C8 Corvette variants during pandemic-related delays. For the then-future ZR1, it reported a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter flat-plane-crank V8, identified as the LT7, with projected output of 850 hp and 825 lb-ft of torque. Those numbers described the reported plan at the time; they were not production specifications.

How does the leak compare with the production 2025 ZR1?
A later MotorTrend feature reported the production 2025 Corvette ZR1 with a 5.5-liter twin-turbo LT7 V8 producing 1,064 hp. That is 214 hp above the 2020 projection. The shared engine name, displacement, and twin-turbo layout align with the earlier forecast, while the reported production output is substantially higher. This comparison does not establish that every detail of the leak was accurate: the available reporting supports only these specific points.

What does the ZTK package add?
MotorTrend’s Fall 2024 feature describes the ZTK package as the track-focused choice, adding front dive planes, a large rear wing, stiffer suspension, and track-focused tires. It reports more than 1,200 pounds of downforce at maximum speed for the ZTK-equipped car. That figure is the feature’s claim and applies at maximum speed, not at every speed or in every ZR1 configuration.

The package’s equipment points to a clear trade-off: the added aero and firmer suspension emphasize track use, whereas a car without those ZTK additions avoids that specific track-focused setup. The cited feature does not provide comparative lap times or a quantified ride-quality difference, so those should not be inferred from the equipment list alone.

In the details supported by these reports, the leak anticipated a twin-turbo 5.5-liter LT7 V8. Its 850-hp projection did not match the later reported production output of 1,064 hp. That makes the leak a useful snapshot of a reported development target, not a complete or definitive specification sheet.

The available sources do not establish a full claim-by-claim audit of the leaked plan, nor do they show whether the projected 825 lb-ft torque figure carried over to production. MotorTrend quoted executive chief engineer Tadge Juechter describing the development approach: “We want the most power technology will give us.”
