The list is a congestion ranking—not a ranking of the most dangerous intersections—and its published scoring method was not stated.

The locations below are presented in the order PerthNow reported on 6 August 2024 as Main Roads’ 20 worst intersections in Perth for congestion. The reporting does not provide comparable delay, traffic-volume or throughput figures for every location, so the positions should not be read as a quantified measure of how much worse one intersection is than another.

Why Reid Highway and Erindale Road is at the top
Main Roads Western Australia says the Reid Highway and Erindale Road intersection carries approximately 83,000 vehicles per day and was Western Australia’s most congested intersection in 2023/24. That is a dated, state-level comparison, not an all-time finding. The agency’s project page for the intersection gives the traffic volume and ranking.

Main Roads also says this intersection recorded the highest number of reported crashes in the Perth metropolitan area. That is a separate fact about this one location; it does not mean the full 20-place congestion list ranks intersections by crash history.
Congestion rankings are not crash rankings
Congestion describes traffic conditions, while crash rankings are based on reported collision data. Main Roads provides a separate Intersection Crash Ranking report for crash information. Consult that resource for safety comparisons rather than treating the PerthNow congestion list as a proxy for crash risk.

What the list can—and cannot—tell drivers
- It identifies locations reported as congestion trouble spots in 2024. It may help drivers anticipate where delays occur, but it is not a live traffic update.
- The positions do not show the size of the differences. The report does not supply a consistent set of delay, volume or throughput measurements for all 20 intersections.
- It is not established as the latest complete ranking. The date attached to the reported list is 6 August 2024, and a newer full list has not been established here.
