These are comparable starting prices for new 2024-model-year vehicles—not out-the-door prices and not a ranking of reliability, resale value, fuel costs, or overall ownership expense. Taxes, title, license, registration, options, dealer charges, markups, and financing are excluded.

How this 2024 SUV price ranking works
This list uses the first 15 entries in a broader affordability comparison published in January 2024. The ranking is ordered from cheapest to most expensive and uses advertised starting prices that include destination charges. It covers new 2024-model-year SUVs and crossovers sold in the United States.
That methodology matters because automakers commonly advertise a base MSRP before destination. The figures below are therefore more useful for comparing entry prices with one another than a bare manufacturer MSRP would be. They still are not the amount you should expect to pay at the dealership.

1. 2024 Hyundai Venue — $21,135
The Venue has the lowest advertised starting price in the comparison. Its formula is straightforward: a small crossover, a modest 1.6-liter engine, front-wheel drive only, and standard driver-assistance features. It is the clearest choice if keeping the initial purchase price as low as possible is the priority.
The trade-off is that buyers cannot add all-wheel drive, and the Venue is positioned as a smaller urban-oriented crossover rather than a roomy compact SUV. Its low price should also be compared against the equipment on the specific trim being offered.
2. 2024 Chevrolet Trax — $21,495
The Trax starts only $360 above the Venue but brings a larger-than-before body and more cargo room than the previous-generation Trax. That makes it one of the more practical entries near the bottom of the list.
Front-wheel drive is standard, so shoppers who need AWD will have to look elsewhere. On paper, the Trax is appealing for buyers who want a conventional small SUV shape and useful space without moving far beyond the $21,000 starting-price range.
3. 2024 Kia Soul — $21,565
The Soul is the third-cheapest entry, just $430 above the Venue. Its boxy shape is the main differentiator: it emphasizes usable interior space and cargo flexibility instead of a low, coupe-like profile. Front-wheel drive is standard.
Most trims carry an EPA-estimated 30 mpg combined rating in the cited comparison. The Soul is a sensible fit for shoppers who want low entry cost, a distinctive shape, and practical cabin packaging, but it does not offer AWD.

The Nissan Kicks costs $1,265 more than the Venue in this ranking and uses front-wheel drive only. Its strongest published value point is fuel economy: the comparison identifies the Kicks as the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid model in this inexpensive group, at 33 mpg combined.

- ABS / Airbag codes NOT Supported - It is able to read and clear check engine information which is part of OBDII system, but it cannot work with non-OBDII systems, including ABS / Airbag / Oil Service Light, etc.
That makes the Kicks worth a closer look for drivers who expect to cover a lot of miles and care more about fuel consumption than all-weather traction or engine performance. The 33-mpg figure is a source-reported EPA estimate and should not be assumed to apply identically to every configuration or driving situation.
5. 2024 Buick Envista — $23,495
The Envista is the least expensive Buick in the ranking and starts below $24,000 including destination. It combines a digital interior with a turbocharged 1.2-liter engine and front-wheel drive.
Its appeal is less about being the absolute cheapest vehicle and more about offering a somewhat more upscale presentation without leaving the lower end of the price list. Buyers should check the equipment on the base trim carefully, since the starting price represents the least-expensive configuration.

The Trailblazer sits just under $25,000 and adds several technology-focused selling points. The ranking highlights its 11-inch touchscreen and broad standard driver-assistance availability. In its base configuration, it uses a 137-horsepower turbocharged three-cylinder engine.
It is a reasonable middle ground between the smaller, cheaper entries and the more conventional compact crossovers farther down the list. As with the Trax, front-wheel-drive availability and the equipment of the exact trim should be confirmed before comparing dealer quotes.
7. 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross — $24,960
The Corolla Cross is the first model in the list to pass the $24,000 mark. It uses a 169-horsepower engine, includes Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, and offers AWD as an option. The cited comparison reports approximately 32 mpg combined, although fuel economy varies by drivetrain and configuration.
This is one of the more conventional small-SUV choices for shoppers who want a familiar compact-crossover layout rather than the especially small Venue or Kicks. Its optional AWD also gives buyers a way to add traction without moving immediately to a larger SUV.

8. 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport — $25,140
The Outlander Sport is one of the least expensive ways to get standard AWD in this group. That is its central value proposition for shoppers in snowy or wet climates who do not want to spend $30,000 or more on a new SUV.

This automotive diagnostic scanner is designed for wide vehicle coverage; please check compatibility with your vehicle before purchase
The low starting price comes with compromises in the base configuration. The comparison specifically notes modest power, smaller or less impressive wheels, simpler infotainment, and less driver-assistance equipment than some rivals. It is therefore important to compare standard equipment rather than price alone.
9. 2024 Volkswagen Taos — $25,420
The Taos is the least expensive German-branded model in the cited list. Its base version uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine and front-wheel drive.
It may appeal to shoppers who want a German-brand crossover while staying near the middle of this affordability ranking. The entry price does not include AWD, so the relevant comparison for an all-weather buyer may be a higher-priced configuration.
10. 2024 Hyundai Kona — $25,435
The 2024 Kona was all-new, with a redesigned cabin and a 12.3-inch center display. The base engine produces 146 horsepower, while AWD is available rather than standard.
At $25,435 including destination, the Kona offers a more technology-forward alternative to the smaller Hyundai Venue. It is worth comparing the base vehicle with similarly priced rivals based on the features actually included, since the larger display and AWD option may require moving up the trim ladder.
11. 2024 Kia Seltos — $25,865
The refreshed 2024 Seltos stands out because standard AWD is paired with a 2.0-liter engine. The cited fuel-economy figure reaches up to 31 mpg, depending on configuration.
That combination makes the Seltos one of the stronger specification-based choices for shoppers who want AWD without giving up too much fuel economy. Its starting price is higher than the Outlander Sport’s, but the comparison should include engine, safety, infotainment, and trim equipment—not just the sticker number.

12. 2024 Honda HR-V — $25,950

It is a conventional small-crossover option for buyers who want the Honda badge and the ability to choose AWD. At nearly $26,000 before taxes and other purchase costs, it is no longer a bare-minimum-price vehicle, so a buyer should compare its included equipment with the Corolla Cross, Seltos, Kona, and CX-30.
13. 2024 Mazda CX-30 — $26,370
The CX-30 is among the more performance-oriented entries by specification. It has standard AWD and a 191-horsepower 2.5-liter engine, along with a comparatively extensive driver-assistance suite.
Those features help explain why it costs more than the Venue, Trax, and Soul. The CX-30 is a strong fit for a shopper who places greater value on power, standard AWD, and safety technology than on achieving the lowest possible entry price.
14. 2024 Subaru Crosstrek — $26,540
The Crosstrek brings standard Subaru Symmetrical AWD and EyeSight driver-assistance technology to the list. On published specifications, it is one of the clearest all-weather choices among these 15 SUVs.
The $26,540 figure is the destination-inclusive price used by the ranking. Subaru’s initial 2024 announcement listed a lower starting MSRP before destination, and a later Subaru comparison page showed a different base price, which illustrates why all figures in this list need to be compared on the same destination-inclusive basis.
15. 2024 Buick Encore GX — $26,895
The Encore GX is the most expensive entry in the 15-vehicle ranking, although it remains below $27,000 on the comparison’s destination-inclusive basis. It occupies a slightly more upscale position than the smallest crossovers and uses a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine with front-wheel drive.
Automatic emergency braking and lane-keep assistance are standard. The Encore GX is best considered by shoppers who want a more premium-oriented small crossover and are willing to spend roughly $5,760 more than the least expensive Venue.

- Lowest initial price: The Hyundai Venue starts at $21,135, the lowest figure in the comparison.
- Best published fuel-economy case: The Nissan Kicks is listed at 33 mpg combined, the highest figure among the non-hybrid models in this group. The Kia Soul is reported at 30 mpg combined for most trims, the Toyota Corolla Cross at about 32 mpg, and the Kia Seltos at up to 31 mpg depending on configuration.
- Least expensive AWD route: The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is identified as one of the least expensive choices with standard AWD, starting at $25,140.
- Strongest all-weather specification: The Subaru Crosstrek combines standard Symmetrical AWD with EyeSight technology. The Mazda CX-30 also includes standard AWD, while the Kia Seltos makes standard AWD a central value point.
- Most practical boxy-crossover approach: The Kia Soul emphasizes a square cabin and useful interior space. The redesigned Chevrolet Trax is another practical choice because it has more cargo room than the previous Trax.
- Conventional small-SUV choices: The Chevrolet Trax, Toyota Corolla Cross, Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona, and Kia Seltos offer familiar crossover formats, with different combinations of AWD availability, technology, and engine specifications.
- More power on paper: The Mazda CX-30 has a 191-horsepower 2.5-liter engine. The Toyota Corolla Cross uses a 169-horsepower engine, while the base Chevrolet Trailblazer uses a 137-horsepower turbocharged three-cylinder.
Why the cheapest SUV may not be the best deal
Entry prices usually represent the most sparsely equipped version of each vehicle. Adding AWD, a larger engine, upgraded infotainment, premium materials, convenience features, or higher trim-level safety equipment can raise the price substantially. A vehicle that is cheapest in the base-trim table may no longer be cheapest once it has the features you actually need.
For example, a front-wheel-drive Venue or Kicks may be a better price match for a warm-weather commuter, while a buyer in an area with frequent snow may need to compare the cost of an AWD Seltos, CX-30, Crosstrek, or Outlander Sport. The cheapest upfront vehicle is not automatically the least expensive choice after fuel, insurance, tires, maintenance, financing, and resale are considered.
Manufacturer MSRP versus the price you actually pay
The figures in the table should be treated as comparable starting prices, not firm transaction prices. A dealer may add accessories, documentation fees, protection packages, or a market adjustment. Regional taxes and registration costs also vary, and manufacturer incentives can reduce the price—or expire before you buy.
The Kia Soul demonstrates the difference clearly. Kia’s official 2024 pricing announcement listed a base LX price of $20,190 before its $1,375 destination fee. The destination-inclusive figure used in this ranking is $21,565.
The Subaru Crosstrek illustrates another issue: its initial 2024 announcement listed a $24,995 starting MSRP before destination, while a later Subaru comparison page showed a $25,195 base price. The ranking uses $26,540 as the comparable destination-inclusive number. Pricing can change during a model year, so confirm the window sticker and buyer’s order for the exact vehicle.
Buyer checklist before choosing one of these SUVs
- Confirm the exact trim. Ask whether the advertised vehicle is the base trim and whether the quote includes AWD, desired safety equipment, upgraded infotainment, and destination.
- Request a complete out-the-door worksheet. Separate vehicle price, destination, dealer fees, accessories, taxes, title, registration, and any market adjustment. Do not compare a pre-destination MSRP with a destination-inclusive dealer quote.
- Check incentives and eligibility. Manufacturer rebates may depend on location, financing through a particular lender, military or student status, or a trade-in. Get the price both with and without incentives you may not qualify for.
- Compare financing separately from vehicle price. A low monthly payment can conceal a longer loan term or a higher interest rate. Obtain preapproval where possible and compare APR, term, amount financed, and total interest.
- Get insurance quotes before committing. Premiums can vary significantly by driver, location, coverage, deductible, vehicle trim, and insurer. Insurance is part of affordability even though it is not included in the table.
- Budget for tires and maintenance. AWD systems, larger wheels, replacement tires, routine service, fuel, and scheduled maintenance can change the long-term cost difference between two similarly priced SUVs.
- Verify fuel-economy configuration. The cited mpg figures are EPA or source-reported estimates and may differ by trim, drivetrain, wheel size, weather, traffic, and driving style. Do not apply a front-wheel-drive rating to an AWD version automatically.
- Inspect used or leftover inventory carefully. A 2024 vehicle sold later may be new, used, or dealer inventory with different warranty and financing terms. For a used SUV, an OBD2 scanner for checking a used SUV can help identify some stored diagnostic trouble codes, but it cannot replace a professional inspection or reveal every mechanical, body, title, or maintenance problem.
- Prepare for roadside problems. A compact emergency roadside kit can be a sensible ownership purchase, particularly if the vehicle will travel long distances. It is an accessory, not a substitute for roadside assistance, proper tire maintenance, or professional repairs.
- Compare the vehicle you can actually buy. Inventory may be limited for 2024 models. Check the vehicle identification number, window sticker, mileage, warranty start date, dealer-installed accessories, and whether the vehicle has been used as a demonstrator.
New 2024 SUV price versus used-car value
This ranking should not be used to decide whether a used 2024 SUV is a good deal. Used pricing depends on mileage, condition, accident and service history, location, remaining warranty, trim, demand, and the availability of newer model years. A used vehicle priced below its original starting price may still be expensive for its condition—or may be a strong buy if it has desirable equipment and a clean history.
For any used example, compare the seller’s total price with local listings, obtain a vehicle-history report, arrange an independent pre-purchase inspection, and verify open recalls and warranty status. The original new-vehicle starting price is useful context, but it is not a substitute for evaluating the specific vehicle.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteMethodology and limitations
The price order and figures come from a secondary automotive comparison published in January 2024. Selected specifications were cross-checked against manufacturer and automotive-reference material, but not every model’s original 2024 pricing release was retrieved for this comparison. Engine, drivetrain, safety, screen, and fuel-economy details can vary by trim and market.
Accordingly, the ranking answers a narrow question: which new 2024 SUVs and crossovers had the lowest advertised starting prices in the United States when destination was included? It does not establish which vehicle is most reliable, safest in independent testing, cheapest to insure, most durable, best to drive, or cheapest to own over time.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Choose the Hyundai Venue if the lowest possible starting price is the goal, the Nissan Kicks if published fuel economy matters most, the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport or Kia Seltos for a lower-cost standard-AWD configuration, and the Subaru Crosstrek or Mazda CX-30 for stronger all-weather specifications. Before buying, compare identical trims and destination-inclusive out-the-door quotes—then add financing, insurance, maintenance, tires, and dealer fees to the affordability calculation.
