There was no official, universal list of the 10 most anticipated cars of 2025. Motor1 published one editorial countdown on December 26, 2024, while automakers separately outlined their own plans. Those forecasts covered electric cars, hybrids, plug-in hybrids and combustion models—but plans and predicted specifications are not proof that a vehicle arrived on schedule or in every market.
Here is what the available sources said was coming, with the distinction between a countdown pick and a company-announced plan made clear. Because this is a retrospective look as of October 8, 2026, “anticipated” describes expectations at the time, not a current promise or a verified launch outcome.
What did “most anticipated” mean?
Motor1’s December 26, 2024 countdown was an editorial selection, framed around promising sales and technical innovations—not a measured industry ranking or buyer-tested comparison. Its retrieved list names nine vehicles: the Hyundai Inster, Jeep Compass, Fiat 500 Hybrid, Mercedes CLA, Volkswagen T-Roc, Lamborghini Temerario, Fiat Grande Panda, Alfa Romeo Stelvio and an electric Ferrari. The available text omits part of the list, so the missing entry cannot be identified reliably here. Motor1’s countdown is one defensible snapshot of what drew attention, not a definitive top ten.
The title also uses “cars” broadly. The expected 2025 launches ranged from small cars and SUVs to sports cars, and automaker model-year pages may include trucks, minivans, carryovers and updates alongside new vehicles. Country matters: timing, specifications, trims, prices and availability can differ by market.

Which cars and updates were expected in 2025?
The Motor1 picks and the Volkswagen Group’s stated plans overlap in places, but they are different kinds of evidence. Motor1 supplied an editorial countdown; Volkswagen Group’s 2024 annual report recorded plans across its brands. Neither source, on its own, confirms that each vehicle reached customers on the announced schedule.

Volkswagen Group’s brand plans
Volkswagen Group’s 2024 annual report described a wide set of planned updates, derivatives and market launches for 2025, spanning Škoda, Audi, Porsche, Bentley and Lamborghini as well as Volkswagen. Audi’s renewal program
Audi described a broad 2025 renewal across electric, combustion-engine and plug-in hybrid vehicles. It said it planned ten new plug-in hybrid models by the end of 2025. That is Audi’s announced target, not a verified final tally. Model-year lineups are not all-new-car lists
Toyota’s official 2025 lineup page spans cars and minivans, crossovers and SUVs, electrified vehicles, trucks and sports cars. How should you use a 2025 anticipation list now?
Use it as a record of expectations, not as a current shopping guide. Forecasts can help explain what automakers and automotive media thought mattered at the time, but a buyer needs up-to-date evidence for the exact country and model year.

- Compare like with like. For any shortlist, align body style and seating, powertrain, market, and whether timing is announced or confirmed.
- Use current local sources for buying details. Verify price, range or fuel economy, charging or refueling needs, and inventory through official or regulatory information for your market.
