The exact-title article located was published by BGR on November 1, 2025. It summarized ten 2025-model-year electric vehicles in order, with the BMW i4 first. That is BGR’s account of Consumer Reports’ reviewed vehicles at the time, not an independently confirmed current Consumer Reports ranking. BGR’s November 2025 list is the basis for the order below.
Later coverage is not simply an update to that ranking. A Quartz article updated February 10, 2026 names eleven EVs, despite a headline that says “10 best,” and includes vehicles absent from BGR’s list. Consumer Reports’ public buying guide was updated October 2, 2026, but the available page does not show the full current ranking corresponding to this exact title. Treat the lists as dated secondary-source summaries, not as a live CR top-ten table.

- 2025 BMW i5. Ranked second. BGR highlights rapid acceleration and a smooth ride. It says the model’s limited history constrained reliability and owner-satisfaction projections.
- 2025 Porsche Taycan. Ranked third. BGR emphasizes performance and handling, while identifying price, reliability, and recall concerns.
- 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6. Ranked fourth. BGR gives a 240–342-mile range depending on configuration and describes a comfortable, quiet drive. It also notes concerns about controls and reliability.
- 2025 Genesis GV60. Ranked fifth. BGR praises its driving dynamics and reports mixed reliability and owner-satisfaction factors.
- 2025 Audi Q6 E-Tron. Ranked sixth. BGR reports 285 miles in its test and a 275–321-mile range depending on model; braking performance is a positive.
- 2025 Kia EV9. Ranked seventh. BGR highlights roominess and acceleration, with size, handling, price, and limited reliability history as considerations.
- 2025 Tesla Model Y. Ranked eighth. BGR describes smooth handling and braking, while flagging distracting controls and value.
- 2025 Audi Q4 E-Tron. Ranked ninth. BGR notes a quiet cabin and comfortable seats, but says perceived value weighed on predicted satisfaction.

What changed in later 2026 coverage?
Quartz’s February 10, 2026 article lists the Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Ioniq 6, BMW i5, BMW i4, Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Chevrolet Equinox EV, BMW iX, Lexus RZ, and Ford F-150 Lightning. That is eleven vehicles, not ten. The different lineup is a signal that dated rankings should not be mixed or presented as a single current CR list. Quartz attributes the following highway-test distances to CR; these are secondary-source summaries, not new tests:

How Consumer Reports evaluates EVs
Consumer Reports says it buys the vehicles it tests and puts them through testing at its Auto Test Center. Its EV buying guide says range is measured at highway speeds to help show how far a driver may travel between charges on a road trip. That result is useful for comparing vehicles under a common test approach, but it is not a guarantee of each driver’s real-world range; configuration and driving conditions matter. CR describes evaluations spanning 50 tests and side-by-side comparisons on its hybrid and EV recommendation page. Its current reliability guide says the 2026 annual survey collected data on approximately 380,000 vehicles and examined 20 trouble areas, including interior trim, EV batteries, and charging. Those broad survey measures provide context; they do not establish an individual owner’s outcome.

CR’s 2026 guide says EVs and plug-in hybrids have about 80 percent more problems on average than gas-only vehicles, attributing many issues to growing pains in new designs and technologies. That is a group average, not a model-by-model finding or a prediction for every EV. The same guide says conventional hybrids have 15 percent fewer problems on average than gas-only cars; that hybrid result should not be applied to battery-electric vehicles. How to use the ranking when choosing an EV
An ordinal list can narrow a field, but it cannot determine the best fit for every buyer. Compare the specific trim you might buy and weigh the factors that change everyday ownership:

- Highway range and configuration: Match test results to the drivetrain, battery, and trim under consideration. A model’s range can vary by configuration, and a highway test is not the same as an advertised range figure.
- Charging: Check the charging equipment and access available to you, along with the charging questions CR highlights in its buying guide. If planning home charging, confirm equipment compatibility and installation needs for your home; the ranking itself does not establish a charger recommendation.
- Driving feel: Consider ride comfort, cabin noise, braking, handling, and acceleration. The 2025 summaries, for example, praise the i4’s handling and the i5’s smooth ride while noting that touchscreen controls may frustrate some drivers.
- Reliability and satisfaction: Separate broad survey averages from a model’s own record and from predicted ratings. A short history can limit the available evidence, as BGR noted for the BMW i5 and Kia EV9.
- Price, space, and use: Compare current local pricing and incentives, passenger and cargo room, and body style. The EV9’s space may matter more to a family than an ordinal place in a list, while the Taycan’s performance may be a priority for a different buyer.
What is and is not established
The November 2025 BGR article supports the claim that it reported these ten 2025-model-year vehicles in this order. The later Quartz article shows a different, eleven-vehicle selection and reports additional CR-attributed test distances. Consumer Reports’ current public guide explains its testing and reliability approach, but the available material does not establish the full current ranking matching the exact headline. The 2025 order should therefore be read as a dated summary, not as a definitive 2026 or 2027 recommendation list.
