What is the BMW M5 CS?
BMW announced the M5 CS as a limited-production, 2022-model-year-only U.S. special edition positioned above the M5 Competition. BMW said carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic helped make it 230 pounds lighter than the M5 Competition. The CS pairs that weight reduction with more power and a more focused setup; the resulting car is less accommodating as an everyday sedan.
Its cabin seats four rather than five: there are two front M carbon sport seats and two individual rear bucket seats. The front seats, red accents and carbon-fiber details help distinguish the interior. BMW listed standard Brands Hatch Grey metallic paint, with Frozen Brands Hatch Grey metallic and Frozen Deep Green metallic as options. Confirm a specific car’s color and equipment through its VIN or build documentation.

BMW UK announced different figures for its market: 635 hp, 750 Nm, 0–62 mph in 3.0 seconds, and a £140,780 on-the-road price. Those UK specifications and price should not be mixed with U.S. figures. BMW UK also specified Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires in 275/35 R20 front and 285/35 R20 rear sizes. Check the vehicle’s tire placard or VIN-specific documentation before buying replacements, particularly for a U.S.-market car.
How fast is the M5 CS in independent tests?
Independent instrumented results vary by publication and test conditions, so there is no single universal tested 0–60-mph figure.

The figures are outlet-specific observations, not promises of what every car or driver will achieve. The tests establish the CS as extraordinarily quick, but also show that its focused character does not mean every handling response is neutral or effortless.
How does the M5 CS compare with the M5 Competition?
The CS sits above the M5 Competition in BMW’s F90 lineup. BMW’s launch materials describe the CS as more powerful and 230 pounds lighter than the Competition, with carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic contributing to weight reduction. The trade is not simply more performance for the same sedan: the CS gives up the conventional five-seat layout for four individual seats, and independent reviewers report compromises in comfort and storage.

What does a BMW M5 CS cost?
Original U.S. launch price
BMW announced a U.S. launch MSRP of $142,000 plus $995 destination in January 2021 for the 2022-model-year M5 CS. Other publications reported different price presentations: Car and Driver lists an MSRP of $143,995, while MotorTrend lists a $143,995 base price and a $148,995 tested price. These are outlet-specific figures; BMW’s contemporaneous announcement is the reference for the announced launch price.
Used-car values are local and time-sensitive
There is no reliable nationwide live transaction-price range established by the available figures. KBB displayed a $134,000 fair-purchase figure for ZIP code 91367 and estimated trade-in values of $115,000–$122,000 and private-party values of $125,000–$132,000, based on condition; KBB said those estimates were valid through September 11, 2026. They are localized valuation estimates, not guaranteed sale prices or current national asking prices.

CLASSIC.COM showed a $152,410 market benchmark for the 2022 M5 CS and notes that actual value depends on condition. That benchmark and KBB’s ZIP-specific estimates use different approaches, so they should not be treated as interchangeable or as a prediction of a particular transaction.
When judging an individual asking price, compare mileage, condition, accident and service history, original specification, location and the seller’s price. A valuation is a reference point, not a substitute for assessing the actual car.

Is the M5 CS practical to own?
The four-seat configuration is the clearest day-to-day limitation: there is no conventional middle rear seat. Edmunds also flags reduced comfort and storage compared with the normal M5. Those compromises matter more if the car needs to serve regularly as a family sedan or carry bulky luggage.
For a used example, review maintenance records and accident history and arrange a pre-purchase inspection with a qualified BMW specialist. The available information does not establish model-specific failure rates or quantify maintenance costs, so neither should be inferred from the car’s performance figures.
Photos and details to look for
In photos, the M5 CS’s visual cues include its front carbon-fiber bucket seats, two separate rear seats, red interior accents and carbon-fiber details. BMW listed Brands Hatch Grey metallic as standard for the U.S. announcement and offered Frozen Brands Hatch Grey metallic and Frozen Deep Green metallic. Paint, options and equipment can differ by individual vehicle, so verify them against build documentation rather than relying on a listing caption.
