Tesla launched a Long Range rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck in the US and Mexico in April 2025 with a reported starting price of $69,990 before incentives and a claimed 350-mile range. The lower-priced configuration used one rear motor but omitted several features found on other versions, including the powered tonneau cover, adaptive suspension, rear touchscreen, rear lightbar and bed outlets. By September 2025, it had disappeared from Tesla’s online configurator; the reason was not officially explained in the coverage available.
What the RWD Cybertruck cost and when it arrived
On April 10, 2025, Electrek reported that Tesla opened orders for the Long Range RWD Cybertruck in the US and Mexico. Its reported starting price was $69,990 before incentives, commonly rounded to about $70,000. Electrek said deliveries were expected in June 2025. What features the RWD configuration left out
The RWD Cybertruck had a single rear motor. To reach the lower launch price, it also omitted equipment available on other Cybertruck versions, according to Electrek’s launch report and Engadget’s later recap.
- Powered tonneau cover: The RWD did not include the powered bed cover.
- Adaptive suspension: The RWD lacked this suspension feature.
- Rear touchscreen: The rear-seat display was omitted.
- Rear lightbar: The RWD did not have the rear lightbar.
- Bed outlets: Power outlets in the bed were absent from the launch configuration.
- Less towing power and lower payload capacity: Engadget described these as differences versus other versions, but the cited coverage does not provide comparable RWD figures.
These are equipment differences, not a judgment about which features every owner needs. The practical trade-off was a simpler, single-motor configuration with fewer comfort and utility features than higher-priced versions.

Range claims and the optional soft tonneau
Electrek reported Tesla’s launch-period range estimate as 350 miles for the RWD Cybertruck. It also reported that Tesla offered a separate soft tonneau cover for $750 and estimated 362 miles of range with that cover. Both range figures are Tesla estimates reported at launch, not independent road-test results. Did Tesla discontinue the RWD Cybertruck?
By September 13, 2025, Engadget reported that the RWD had disappeared from Tesla’s online configurator after about five months. At that point, the visible configurations were AWD and Cyberbeast. Engadget reported no official explanation from Tesla for the removal, so the reason should not be stated as fact. Engadget’s September 2025 report

Cars.com’s June 16, 2026 overview also described the RWD trim as dropped. Its dated US lineup snapshot listed the Dual Motor AWD at $71,985, Premium AWD at $81,985 and Cyberbeast at $101,985, with destination included. Cars.com reported ranges of 325, 325 and 320 miles, respectively. These are 2026 figures, not directly comparable to the RWD’s 2025 launch price, which was reported before incentives and does not state destination treatment. Tesla’s current Cybertruck FAQ says Traffic-Aware Cruise Control is standard across Cybertruck vehicles, FSD (Supervised) is sold separately, and the vehicle can provide power through onboard outlets or the charge port. The FAQ also notes that bed and cabin outlet availability depends on equipment. These general current support statements do not establish that the 2025 RWD configuration had every listed feature, nor do they show that the RWD trim is available again.
