March 29, 2025, was the date—not a future protest day. Tesla Takedown’s planned global mobilization did produce demonstrations at Tesla locations in the United States and abroad. Contemporaneous reporting put the number of planned or listed actions at more than 200, including at least 213 scheduled events reported by TechCrunch.
The day also took place amid a separate wave of arson, gunfire and vandalism aimed at Tesla vehicles and facilities. That made safety a legitimate concern, but the available public reporting did not establish that Tesla Takedown organized those crimes. The central fact of this retrospective is the difference between a movement that called for peaceful pickets and individual criminal cases unfolding around the same political backlash.
What Tesla Takedown was protesting
Tesla Takedown described itself as a decentralized, grassroots movement aimed at weakening Tesla’s business and Elon Musk’s political influence. Its proposed pressure campaign was economic and reputational: supporters were encouraged to sell Teslas, divest Tesla stock and join picket lines outside Tesla locations.
The campaign grew out of opposition to Musk’s role in the Trump administration and the Department of Government Efficiency, commonly known as DOGE. Organizers objected to Musk’s efforts to reduce the federal workforce and government spending, and framed the protests as resistance to what they characterized as attacks on democratic institutions.

That theory of change matters because Tesla Takedown was not primarily presenting March 29 as a conventional product protest. The movement’s argument was that Tesla’s brand, sales and stock price were sources of Musk’s wealth and influence. Whether the boycott or demonstrations achieved those economic goals is a separate question; the available material does not establish that the protests caused any particular movement in Tesla’s stock or sales.
What was planned for March 29, 2025?
Organizers promoted March 29, 2025, as their biggest coordinated day of action to that point. The public plan covered the United States, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, with demonstrations expected at Tesla showrooms, dealerships and service centers. Some event listings also identified charging stations as locations.
| Claim | What the evidence supports |
|---|---|
| More than 200 protests | Contemporaneous reporting described more than 200 planned or listed actions across several regions. |
| At least 213 events | TechCrunch reported that at least 213 Tesla Takedown protests were scheduled worldwide. |
| 500 protests | Some early organizer targets and social posts discussed approximately 500 actions, but that was not a confirmed completed total. |
The distinction between planned, listed and completed events is important. There is solid contemporaneous evidence for a worldwide mobilization and for more than 200 scheduled or listed actions. There is not a reliable basis for presenting 500 as the number that actually took place.
The campaign’s public instructions emphasized picketing, signs, boycotts and peaceful demonstrations. Organizers told participants not to enter Tesla property or damage vehicles. A sign was a natural part of the planned demonstration format; anyone attending a peaceful event should check local rules and venue restrictions first. If signs are permitted, a weather-resistant protest sign is more practical than loose paper in rain or wind.

Demonstrations were reported in U.S. cities including New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Seattle and Austin, among others. International actions were reported in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Australia and New Zealand.
The locations were significant. A picket outside a showroom or service center can be visible to customers and passersby without being a protest inside a private business. But the boundary between a public sidewalk and privately controlled property varies by location. An event being listed at a Tesla site did not give participants permission to enter a building, block access, obstruct customers or interfere with employees.
What happened on March 29
Protests did take place at Tesla locations in the United States and abroad. Reports from NPR and the Associated Press described demonstrations in multiple American cities, while international coverage documented actions across Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

The day was not uniformly free of conflict. In Watertown, Massachusetts, police investigated an incident in which the side mirror of a pickup truck struck two people outside a Tesla service center. The Associated Press reported that no serious injuries were reported. The account does not establish that the driver was part of Tesla Takedown or that the incident represented an organized movement action.
In Ottersberg, Germany, a fire destroyed seven Teslas at a dealership. Police investigated, but the Associated Press reported that it was not immediately clear whether the fire was related to the protests. That uncertainty should remain part of any accurate account of the day.
Why violence was a live concern before the protests
The warning that “things might get ugly” did not arise in a vacuum. In the weeks before March 29, Tesla vehicles, dealerships, storage lots and charging stations had been targeted in criminal incidents across the United States.
On March 21, 2025, the FBI said that incidents had occurred since January in at least nine states and involved arson, gunfire and vandalism. The FBI said the incidents known to it appeared to have been carried out by lone offenders and had occurred at night. That public description pointed away from a demonstrated, centrally coordinated protest campaign, although it did not resolve the facts of every individual case.
Federal prosecutors also announced two cases during the run-up to March 29:
- In Las Vegas, prosecutors alleged that Paul Hyon Kim used Molotov cocktails and a firearm to damage or destroy five Tesla vehicles at a Tesla collision business on March 18.
- In Washington, D.C., prosecutors charged Justin Fisher with defacing multiple Tesla vehicles between March 1 and March 21.
Those were allegations at the time of the announcements. Kim and Fisher were presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. The charges also concerned individual defendants, not Tesla Takedown as an organization.

The crucial distinction: protest activity versus criminal attacks
Tesla Takedown’s peaceful demonstrations and the criminal attacks on Tesla property belonged to the same broader political backlash, but that does not make them the same activity. The available reporting and the FBI’s public alert did not establish that Tesla Takedown directed the arson, gunfire or vandalism.
That distinction is more than a technicality. Treating every person at a picket line as an arsonist would turn an unproven association into a fact. Conversely, describing every incident as harmless protest activity would erase genuine crimes and the safety risks faced by Tesla employees, customers, demonstrators and bystanders.
The most supportable description is that peaceful protests occurred while separate criminal investigations were under way. Organizers repeatedly called for nonviolence, while investigators and prosecutors handled specific alleged attacks on their own facts.

Political rhetoric around the protests
The protests also became part of a heated political exchange. TechCrunch reported that Donald Trump described attacks on Tesla as “domestic terrorism,” while Attorney General Pam Bondi threatened prosecution of people involved in the crimes. The Justice Department used domestic-terrorism language in public statements concerning Tesla-related crimes.
That language should be attributed rather than treated as a final finding about Tesla Takedown. Political descriptions, agency statements and criminal charges are not interchangeable with convictions, and the legal status of the cases varied by jurisdiction.
Elon Musk also accused at least one peaceful protest organizer of criminal conduct without publicly presenting proof in the account reported by TechCrunch. That allegation belongs in the category of political and public rhetoric unless supported by evidence or a formal finding.

How to assess claims about the day
Several common summaries of March 29, 2025, blur important differences. Use this framework:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- “Tesla Takedown planned 500 protests.” Qualify this as an early goal or estimate. The stronger contemporaneous figure is more than 200 planned or listed actions, including at least 213 scheduled events reported by TechCrunch.
- “Tesla Takedown carried out the attacks.” Do not make this claim without evidence that is not present in the available reporting. The FBI described known incidents as apparently involving lone offenders.
- “Every March 29 event was peaceful.” Too broad. There were reports of conflict and serious incidents around Tesla locations, including the Watertown vehicle incident and the Ottersberg fire, though neither was established as an organized Tesla Takedown attack.
- “The protests crashed Tesla stock or caused a sales decline.” That requires separate financial data and causal analysis. Participation in a protest and a market or sales movement are not proof of cause.
If you were attending a peaceful demonstration
March 29, 2025, has passed, but the basic safety questions apply to any future demonstration:
- Confirm the location and time. Event listings can change, and a Tesla showroom, service center, charging station and dealership may have different access rules.
- Stay in lawful public areas. Do not assume that a business parking lot, driveway or forecourt is public space. Follow local instructions and do not block entrances, exits, sidewalks or emergency routes.
- Keep the message nonviolent. Signs, chants and picketing are different from damaging vehicles, threatening people or interfering with workers and customers.
- Plan for separation and de-escalation. Leave room around driveways and moving vehicles. If a confrontation develops, move away rather than attempting to argue with or stop a driver.
- Bring only permitted materials. Check local rules before bringing a sign, pole, banner, camera equipment or anything that could be treated as a prohibited object.
- Report emergencies through local emergency services. Do not investigate a suspected fire, weapon or act of vandalism yourself.
These precautions protect demonstrators as well as the people they are protesting against. They also help preserve the distinction between lawful political expression and conduct that can lead to injury or criminal charges.

The campaign did not end with the global day of action. Later reporting described additional protests in April and subsequent local actions. That shows the movement continued beyond March 29, but it does not show that it maintained the same worldwide scale or frequency.
As of August 2026, the Tesla Takedown public website remained online. It described the campaign as a peaceful protest movement, provided a way to find protests, linked to protest merchandise and continued to feature calls to sell Teslas, divest Tesla stock and join demonstrations. A website’s continued availability and messaging, however, do not establish how many active protests were taking place or how large the movement was at that time.

Bottom line
March 29, 2025, was a real international mobilization by Tesla Takedown, with more than 200 planned or listed actions and at least 213 scheduled events reported by TechCrunch. Demonstrations occurred in the United States and several other countries. The day unfolded during a wider wave of criminal attacks on Tesla property, which explains the serious concern about safety—but the available evidence does not justify blaming the organized protest movement for those crimes. The accurate story is a peaceful protest campaign operating amid an increasingly violent and politically charged backlash, with the two strands requiring separate treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many Tesla Takedown protests took place on March 29?
March 29, 2025, was promoted as Tesla Takedown’s largest coordinated day of action to that point. TechCrunch reported at least 213 scheduled protests worldwide, while other contemporaneous reports described more than 200 planned or listed events across the United States, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Approximately 500 was discussed as an early target, not a confirmed completed total.
Was Tesla Takedown responsible for the attacks on Tesla property?
No. The available reporting did not establish that Tesla Takedown organized the arson, gunfire or vandalism directed at Tesla property. The FBI said incidents in its March 21, 2025, alert appeared to have been carried out by lone offenders. Individual incidents remained subject to investigation, and criminal charges were allegations against specific defendants.
Why were Tesla Takedown protesters targeting Elon Musk and Tesla?
The movement opposed Musk’s role in the Trump administration and DOGE, especially his efforts to reduce the federal workforce and government spending. Organizers said they wanted to reduce his political influence by pressuring Tesla’s reputation, business and stock. That was the campaign’s theory of change; it does not prove that the protests caused any stock or sales movement.
Is Tesla Takedown still active?
Later reporting described additional protests in April and subsequent local actions. By August 2026, the movement’s public website was still online and continued to promote selling Teslas, divesting Tesla stock and joining protests. The website’s continued availability does not establish the movement’s current number of events or participants.
The Bottom Line
The defensible account: Tesla Takedown held a major worldwide protest mobilization on March 29, 2025, while separate Tesla-related arson, gunfire and vandalism investigations intensified. More than 200 actions were planned or listed, but 500 was not a confirmed total, and no available evidence established that the organized movement directed the criminal attacks.
