“Tesla Takedown” was a planned March 29, 2025 day of protest—not an upcoming event. Organizers said they were aiming for 500 demonstrations worldwide, including actions at all 277 Tesla showrooms in the United States. That figure was a target, not a verified count of protests that ultimately took place.
On March 29, the Associated Press reported demonstrations at Tesla locations across the United States and in several European cities. The available reporting does not establish a single worldwide turnout figure, nor does it show that every planned location hosted an action.
What was Tesla Takedown?
Tesla Takedown described itself as a “Peaceful Protest Movement.” Its campaign focused on opposing Elon Musk’s political activity, including his work associated with the Department of Government Efficiency, commonly known as DOGE, and on applying economic pressure to Tesla.
The movement’s website urged supporters to “Sell Your Teslas,” “Dump Your Stock,” and join picket lines. Its stated theory was that reducing demand for Tesla vehicles and lowering the company’s value could put pressure on Musk. That is the organizers’ strategy and stated objective—not an independently demonstrated causal relationship.

The Verge reported on March 20, 2025, that organizers were preparing what they described as their largest day of action. Alice Hu, executive director of Planet Over Profit, was quoted regarding the goal of 500 demonstrations. The planned actions were expected to include Tesla showrooms, Supercharger stations, and locations outside the United States.
How many protests were planned?
Organizers said they were targeting:
- 500 demonstrations globally;
- all 277 Tesla showrooms in the United States;
- additional actions at Supercharger locations; and
- overseas demonstrations.
Those numbers should be read as organizing goals. They do not prove that 500 protests occurred, that every U.S. showroom was surrounded, or that the movement produced a particular worldwide turnout.
The AP later reported that the movement hoped to rally people at more than 230 locations outside the United States. The reviewed reporting documents demonstrations in the United States and some European cities, but it does not provide a verified global count of completed events or participants.
What happened on March 29, 2025?
AP reporting documented protests at Tesla sites in states including New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Maryland, Minnesota, and Texas. It also reported demonstrations in cities including Washington, Chicago, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Seattle.

Outside the United States, demonstrations were reported in locations including London, Berlin, and Vancouver. Reported crowds at U.S. sites ranged from dozens to hundreds. Some locations also saw smaller counterprotests.
Demonstrators carried signs and placards and gathered near Tesla facilities. But the available sources do not establish that the announced target of 500 actions was reached, and they do not support adding up planned locations into a global attendance total.
Was Tesla Takedown a peaceful protest?
The organized movement characterized its demonstrations as peaceful, and its organizers repeatedly emphasized nonviolence. Representative Jasmine Crockett, who supported the movement’s cause and used the word “fighting” in describing the political conflict, clarified that she meant nonviolent action.
That description of the organized demonstrations must be kept separate from unrelated or separately reported crimes involving Tesla property.

The AP reported fires and vandalism involving Tesla property around this period. It also reported that a fire in Germany that destroyed seven Teslas was not clearly linked to the March 29 protests.

- QUICK & SECURE SETUP – Comes complete with a sturdy metal stake for hassle-free installation in your yard, dirt, or sidewalks. No tools needed—just push it in and let your message stand firm.
- SPARK CONVERSATION & INSPIRE ACTION – Designed to provoke thought and encourage civic engagement, this sign serves as a powerful conversation starter in your community. Whether placed in your front yard or carried at demonstrations, it effectively amplifies your voice and inspires others to join the movement for democratic values.
That distinction matters. The available reporting does not establish that every incident involving Tesla property was organized by Tesla Takedown, directed by its organizers, or part of the global day of action. It would therefore be inaccurate to describe the entire movement as responsible for those crimes.
The U.S. Department of Justice issued a March 18 statement calling violent attacks on Tesla property “domestic terrorism” and said several alleged perpetrators had been charged. The statement did not designate Tesla Takedown as a terrorist organization, and it did not establish that peaceful protesters as a group committed or directed the attacks.
What was the campaign trying to achieve?
Tesla Takedown’s economic argument had several parts:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Public pressure: demonstrations were intended to draw attention to opposition to Musk’s political role and actions.
- Consumer pressure: supporters were encouraged to sell or avoid Tesla vehicles.
- Investor pressure: supporters were encouraged to sell Tesla stock.
- Corporate-value pressure: organizers argued that weakening Tesla’s financial position could reduce Musk’s influence or force a change in behavior.
The last step is a campaign theory, not a proven result. Demonstrations, vehicle sales, stock transactions, brand sentiment, and executive decisions are affected by many factors. The sources reviewed do not demonstrate that Tesla Takedown caused a particular change in Tesla’s sales, share price, valuation, or corporate policy.

Did the protests affect Tesla’s business?
Tesla’s official first-quarter 2025 filing reported 362,615 vehicles produced and 336,681 vehicles delivered. Tesla attributed some lost production time to Model Y line changeovers and cautioned that delivery figures alone are not a measure of quarterly financial performance.
Those figures provide business context, but they do not establish a protest effect. In particular, the filing data cannot by themselves show whether the March 29 demonstrations changed vehicle demand, deliveries, production, the stock price, or the company’s brand.
A careful account should therefore avoid claims such as “the protests caused Tesla’s sales decline” or “the day of action damaged Tesla financially” unless supported by additional company, market, or independent economic analysis.

Why the wording matters
“Tesla Takedown protesters planning ‘biggest day of action’” describes a March 20 announcement about a future event. After March 29, the most accurate update is narrower: organizers called for 500 actions, and AP documented protests at Tesla sites in the United States and in some cities abroad.

That wording preserves both parts of the story. It records the scale organizers sought while distinguishing an announced target from independently reported events. It also avoids merging peaceful picketing with crimes whose perpetrators or connection to the protests were not established by the cited reporting.

Frequently Asked Questions
Did 500 Tesla Takedown protests happen?
No verified count in the reviewed reporting confirms that 500 demonstrations took place. Organizers announced 500 as their target, while AP documented protests at Tesla locations across the United States and in some European cities.
When was Tesla Takedown’s biggest day of action?
The planned global day of action was Saturday, March 29, 2025. The original announcement was reported on March 20, 2025.
Was Tesla Takedown officially designated a terrorist organization?
No. The Justice Department called violent attacks on Tesla property “domestic terrorism,” but the reviewed statement did not designate Tesla Takedown or all of its protesters as a terrorist organization.
Did the protests cause Tesla’s 2025 sales or production results?
The available evidence does not establish that. Tesla reported 362,615 vehicles produced and 336,681 delivered in the first quarter of 2025, while citing factors including Model Y production-line changeovers. Delivery figures alone do not show the effect of protests.
The Bottom Line
Tesla Takedown organizers planned a large, international day of nonviolent demonstrations for March 29, 2025 and said they were aiming for 500 actions. AP confirmed protests at Tesla locations across the United States and in some overseas cities, but no verified source in the reviewed material confirms 500 completed demonstrations or a global turnout. Peaceful protests, reported property crimes, the DOJ’s rhetoric, and Tesla’s business results should be treated as separate parts of the story.
