Reports on June 18, 2025 said Gigafactory Texas in Austin would pause Cybertruck and the newly retooled Model Y for about one week beginning June 30, reportedly for production-line maintenance. Yahoo Finance described TSLA trading near $316, roughly 4% below that day’s starting price, but that was an intraday move—not a confirmed closing loss.
Later Tesla disclosures show both models remained in production. The pause was temporary, and the contemporaneous reports did not establish that weak demand alone caused it or that the production news alone caused the share-price decline.

What the June 2025 report actually said
The headline dates to June 18, 2025. The reported action was limited to Tesla’s Austin plant, not every factory or the entire company.
- Models affected: Cybertruck and the newly retooled Model Y.
- Location: Gigafactory Texas in Austin.
- Timing: approximately one week beginning June 30, 2025.
- Reported purpose: maintenance and work on the production lines.
- Evidence: The Economic Times cited a Business Insider report based on an internal staff meeting.
Tesla did not publish a contemporaneous work-order or engineering explanation in the reports available for this event. “Maintenance” and line work are therefore the reported immediate reason, not a detailed official account of every task performed.

How much did TSLA fall?
Yahoo Finance reported TSLA at about $316, nearly 4% below the day’s starting price. The Economic Times also characterized the decline as close to 4%.
That figure should be read as an approximate intraday reaction. It is not a verified closing-price calculation, and a report of a production pause cannot by itself prove why the entire market move occurred. Yahoo Finance also pointed to a separately delayed Robotaxi pilot as another source of pressure on the stock.
Rank #2
| Measure | What was reported | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Share price | About $316 | Approximate level in Yahoo Finance’s contemporaneous account |
| Move | Nearly 4% lower than the day’s starting price | Intraday estimate, not a confirmed closing performance |
| Other cited pressure | Delayed Robotaxi pilot | Shows the production report was not the only reported factor |
Was the pause caused by maintenance or weak demand?
What the contemporaneous report supports
The strongest direct explanation in the June 2025 coverage was scheduled or necessary production-line maintenance at Austin. A short, plant-specific pause can also accompany equipment work or a manufacturing changeover, but the reports did not provide enough technical detail to identify the exact work.

There was no contemporaneous official Tesla statement in the cited material saying that weak demand forced the pause. Nor does the report establish a strategic decision to abandon either model. Demand concerns may have influenced investor interpretation, but they remain an interpretation rather than a documented cause of the one-week stoppage.
The clean distinction is: maintenance and line work were the reported immediate reason; demand and broader strategy were possible market narratives, not established explanations for the pause.
Did Tesla stop making the Cybertruck?
No. The June event was described as a temporary Austin pause. Later Tesla filings and production releases show that Cybertruck manufacturing continued.
Tesla’s 2026 production release
In a July 2, 2026 production release, Tesla stated: “In the second quarter, we produced over 450,000 vehicles, delivered over 480,000 vehicles and deployed 13.5 GWh of energy storage products.” The release reported 451,758 total vehicles produced, including 442,936 Model 3/Y vehicles.
Those figures are company-wide second-quarter results, not a Cybertruck-only count, so they should not be used to calculate Cybertruck output. They do, however, provide later official evidence that Tesla’s vehicle operations were active after the 2025 pause.

What Tesla’s filings list as active
Tesla’s Q2 2026 Form 10-Q lists Model Y production at Fremont, Shanghai, Berlin and Texas, and Cybertruck production at Texas. Tesla’s January 2026 investor update also marked Texas annual installed capacity above 250,000 Model Y vehicles and above 125,000 Cybertrucks as “Production.”
Capacity is not the same as actual deliveries, but these disclosures are inconsistent with a permanent shutdown. They show the Austin lines remained part of Tesla’s production footprint.

- June 18, 2025: Reports describe a planned approximately one-week pause at Gigafactory Texas affecting Cybertruck and the retooled Model Y.
- June 30, 2025: The reported Austin pause was expected to begin, with maintenance and line work cited as the reason.
- January 2026: Tesla’s investor update lists more than 250,000 annual Model Y capacity and more than 125,000 annual Cybertruck capacity at Texas, both marked “Production.”
- July 2, 2026: Tesla reports 451,758 vehicles produced in the second quarter, while its Form 10-Q lists active Model Y and Cybertruck production locations.
How to read the “abrupt halt” wording
“Abrupt halt” overstates what the evidence establishes. The reported interruption was abrupt from an employee or investor-news perspective, but its described duration was about one week and its scope was one plant. It was not a company-wide shutdown, and no evidence here shows that Tesla permanently ended either program.

“Stock plummets” also needs context. A nearly 4% intraday decline is meaningful, but the available reporting does not isolate the production pause’s contribution from the delayed Robotaxi pilot or other market factors. Readers should not treat the move as a single-cause measurement.
Quick Recap
What investors can reasonably conclude
- The June 2025 event was a temporary Austin production pause involving Cybertruck and Model Y.
- Maintenance and production-line work were the reported immediate explanation; Tesla did not provide a detailed contemporaneous work-order account in the cited coverage.
- The reported share reaction was approximately a 4% intraday decline to around $316, not a verified closing-price result.
- Later Tesla disclosures show Model Y and Cybertruck production remained active, ruling out the idea that the June pause became a permanent shutdown.
- Any claim that weak demand alone caused the pause, or that the pause alone caused the stock drop, goes beyond what the cited evidence demonstrates.
