Tesla’s U.S. seat-belt recall, NHTSA campaign 24V-376, covers 125,227 potentially affected vehicles. Which Teslas are included in the U.S. recall?
NHTSA’s May 30, 2024 acknowledgment lists 125,227 potentially affected U.S. vehicles under campaign 24V-376. Tesla identifies the same recall as SB-24-00-008. The listed model-year ranges are screening guidance, not proof that any particular car is included: eligibility is VIN-specific. NHTSA’s campaign acknowledgment lists these vehicles:

What is the seat-belt problem?
Tesla says an “open trace in the driver seat occupancy switch” may prevent both the audible chime and visual reminder from activating when the driver’s belt is unfastened after the ignition is moved to “on” or “start.” The issue is in the warning system; the recall filing does not state that the belt cannot restrain an occupant.
Tesla’s recall page explains that FMVSS No. 208, S7.3(a)(1) calls for an audible signal for at least four seconds and a visual signal for at least 60 seconds in that situation. If the reminder does not alert an unbelted driver, the driver may be less likely to buckle up, increasing the risk of injury in a crash. Tesla’s recall information describes the issue and standard.

How to check whether your Tesla is affected
- Check the VIN. Use Tesla’s recall lookup or the NHTSA VIN lookup to see whether the vehicle has an unrepaired recall. A model and year alone cannot confirm applicability.
- Check the software version. In the vehicle, open Controls > Software. Tesla’s June 17, 2024 service bulletin says version 2024.20.3 or newer satisfies the software remedy check; a vehicle on an earlier version should be updated to 2024.20.3 or newer. This software check does not replace the VIN-specific recall check. Tesla’s service bulletin filed with NHTSA gives the version guidance.
NHTSA says its VIN tool shows unrepaired recalls, but not recalls that have already been repaired. Recently announced recalls may also take time to appear while VINs are added. If a result appears incomplete, check Tesla’s lookup or contact Tesla; recall status can change as an update is installed and records are processed.
What the remedy requires
Tesla’s remedy is a free over-the-air software update. It removes reliance on the driver seat occupancy switch and uses the seat-belt buckle and ignition status to activate the reminders. Tesla says owners do not need to schedule a service visit; vehicles receiving the updated release need no further action for this recall. Tesla’s recall page explains the remedy.

Is my car safe to drive?
The recalled condition concerns a warning that might not tell an unbelted driver to buckle up; it is not described as a failure of the belt’s restraint function. Wear the seat belt on every trip and do not rely on the chime or warning light as a substitute for buckling up. If your VIN shows an unrepaired recall, follow Tesla’s software-update guidance and contact Tesla if the update does not install or the recall status remains unclear.
What Tesla reported about claims and incidents
In its recall filing, Tesla said that as of May 28, 2024, it had identified 104 warranty claims that might relate to the condition and was unaware of related collisions, fatalities or injuries. Those are Tesla’s statements as of that date, not a verified lifetime total or a current count. Tesla’s Part 573 recall report contains the dated report.

Does this recall apply outside the United States?
The model-year ranges and 125,227-vehicle figure above refer to the U.S. campaign. Transport Canada published a related alert, ID 2024298, for certain Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X vehicles; its record says Tesla would notify owners by email and provide an OTA update to activate the chime and visual warning. The Canadian affected-product listings do not exactly match the U.S. ranges. Owners elsewhere should use the recall database and Tesla lookup for their country rather than assuming the U.S. eligibility list applies. Transport Canada’s recall alert gives the Canadian details.
