But “continuing to fall” no longer describes its latest quarterly delivery trend. Tesla reported more deliveries in each of Q2 and Q3 2026 than in the preceding quarter. Those figures show a sequential rebound, not whether full-year 2026 will top 2025 or whether revenue and profit are recovering.
Are Tesla’s sales still falling?
It depends on the period and the measure. Tesla’s full-year 2025 results showed a decline: its 2025 Form 10-K said automotive sales revenue was down 9% from 2024, while the Associated Press reported that full-year deliveries fell about 9% to 1.64 million vehicles. The latest quarterly figures available by October 8, 2026, however, show deliveries rising from quarter to quarter.
Tesla reported 358,023 deliveries in Q1 2026, 480,126 in Q2, and 486,532 in Q3. That is a sequential increase across those reported quarters—not proof of year-over-year growth, a full-year turnaround, or stronger profitability. Tesla cautions that deliveries are only one measure of financial performance.
What Tesla’s latest delivery figures show

These are Tesla’s reported vehicle deliveries, not revenue or earnings. In its Q3 release, Tesla said production and delivery numbers represent passenger vehicles sold to customers. Production was 464,391 in Q3, below deliveries; production and deliveries are separate measures and should not be treated as interchangeable.

Why did Tesla’s automotive revenue fall in 2025?
Tesla’s 2025 Form 10-K attributed the 9% year-over-year decline in automotive sales revenue to approximately 8% fewer cash deliveries and lower average selling prices. The company linked lower average selling prices to sales mix and higher customer incentives, including financing options. This matters because a revenue drop can reflect both fewer vehicles sold and less revenue per vehicle; it is not a direct measure of unit deliveries alone.
Factory changeover was part of the delivery context
Tesla’s Q2 2025 Form 10-Q described the simultaneous factory changeover for the refreshed Model Y as part of the delivery context. It also discussed tariffs and policy incentives among business risks. The filing supports noting production transition and policy exposure, but does not establish that the factory changeover explains the full-year decline.

What explanations have been reported—and what remains uncertain
News coverage around the 2025 decline pointed to several potential pressures. Reuters, in a December 30, 2025 preview, reported that the loss of US tax credits and rising global competition were weighing on demand, and that analysts expected a second consecutive annual delivery decline. The Associated Press, reporting on January 2, 2026, discussed expiring US tax breaks, overseas competition, and customer backlash associated with Elon Musk’s political activity.
These are reported explanations, not quantified contributions in Tesla’s official filings reviewed here. The available sources do not establish what share of the decline came from any one factor, so it would be misleading to assign a precise cause or rank them as proven drivers.

How to read the trend without mixing unlike numbers
- For vehicle demand or volume: compare deliveries with deliveries for the same period, ideally year over year as well as quarter over quarter. Sequential comparisons can be affected by seasonality and timing.
- For the business’s automotive sales: compare automotive sales revenue with automotive sales revenue, and keep average selling prices, sales mix, and incentives in view.
- For production capacity: use production figures, not deliveries. Tesla reported 464,391 vehicles produced in Q3 2026 and 486,532 delivered.
- For forecasts: label estimates as estimates. Tesla’s Q3 2025 analyst-consensus median was 463,406, below the later reported Q3 2026 actual of 486,532; the consensus and actual refer to different quarters, and Tesla says it does not endorse analysts’ conclusions.
Tesla’s Q3 2026 earnings had not been announced by October 8, 2026, so the delivery release alone cannot answer whether quarterly revenue or profit rose. The company itself says deliveries and storage deployments are only two measures of financial performance and should not be relied on as an indicator of quarterly financial results.
