Tesla was accepting Cybertruck trade-ins by May 2025, when two owners told TechCrunch they had received offers far below the amounts they said they paid. One reported a $63,100 offer for a 2024 AWD Cybertruck bought for $100,000; another reported $78,200 for a Cyberbeast bought for $127,000. Those are striking individual examples—not a market-wide depreciation rate or a current Tesla quote.
What the reported Cybertruck trade-in offers were
In its May 25, 2025 report, TechCrunch described two owner-reported Tesla trade-in offers:
| Truck and owner-reported purchase | Reported Tesla offer | What the comparison shows |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 AWD Cybertruck bought for $100,000; 19,623 miles | $63,100 | TechCrunch characterized the gap as 37% depreciation. |
| Cyberbeast bought for $127,000 the previous September | $78,200 about eight months later | TechCrunch described the gap as a 38% loss. |
The percentages compare each reported offer with the owner’s stated purchase amount. The accounts do not establish the trucks’ full transaction histories, nor do they show what every Cybertruck owner would be offered. TechCrunch also relayed a CarGurus estimate of depreciation as high as 45%; that is a separate reported figure, not a Tesla trade-in rate.
Why the two offers are not a Cybertruck depreciation rate
Two reported offers cannot establish a representative rate across model years, trims, mileage, condition, geography, or sale dates. The purchase amounts and offers are individual owner accounts reported in 2025. They should not be read as a current valuation for a truck being traded in now.

The reviewed figures do not establish a single representative published Cybertruck trade-in depreciation statistic. Third-party appraisal estimates offer context, but they are conditional estimates rather than Tesla offers, and their dates and assumptions matter.
How Tesla says it values a trade-in
Tesla’s U.S. Trade-Ins support guidance says it accepts passenger cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs toward a new or Certified Pre-Owned Tesla purchase. The process starts when an owner submits vehicle details through a Tesla Account. Tesla may ask for photos and documents, and the final offer is subject to physical inspection.

For Tesla vehicles, Tesla states: “Trade-in values for Tesla vehicles are determined based on vehicle configuration, history, mileage and age.” Its guidance also identifies owner-provided information, market data, and Tesla’s internal product knowledge as valuation factors.
What can change the final offer
- Reported damage, mechanical issues, and modifications are accounted for at the final-offer stage rather than in the initial estimate.
- For Tesla trade-ins, Full Self-Driving (Supervised) is included in the value only if it was not transferred to the new vehicle.
- Aftermarket modifications typically reduce trade-in valuations; Tesla says stock condition is best.
- Tesla says offers reflect current market conditions, are not negotiable, and are not matched to competing offers.
A final Tesla offer expires after 30 days or 1,000 miles, whichever comes first, according to the same U.S. guidance.

How the reported offers compare with dated estimates
Third-party estimates illustrate how much the answer depends on the exact truck and valuation date. Neither source below is reporting a guaranteed Tesla offer.
| Source and vehicle assumptions | Trade-in estimate | Private-party estimate | Date and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Edmunds, 2025 Cybertruck: no options, clean condition, roughly 12,000 miles per year | $64,434 | $66,261 | Edmunds estimates accessed October 5, 2026; its broader used-value range was $60,803–$106,408 depending on condition, mileage, and options. |
| Kelley Blue Book, 2025 Cybertruck Cyberbeast, ZIP code 23917 | About $69,700–$81,900, depending on condition | About $77,100–$90,500, depending on condition | KBB estimates were stated as valid through October 2, 2026. KBB also estimated $16,435, or 16%, depreciation over the last year for this trim and explained that estimates are not guarantees. |
These figures cannot be compared as if they describe the same vehicle: one is a 2025 no-option Cybertruck under specified mileage and condition assumptions, while the other is a Cyberbeast estimate for a particular ZIP code. The Tesla offers in the 2025 reports are different trucks again.

Trade-in value is not the same as private-party value
A trade-in estimate concerns what a dealer might offer when taking a vehicle in; a private-party estimate concerns a sale directly between individuals. They are different valuation categories, and neither guarantees the amount a particular buyer or Tesla will pay. KBB describes its trade-in value as an amount expected from a dealership that week; its private-party estimate is listed separately. Edmunds also provides separate trade-in and private-party estimates.

How to estimate what your Cybertruck is worth
- Start with Tesla’s process: submit your truck’s details through your Tesla Account to request a trade-in estimate. Provide accurate configuration, mileage, history, and condition information; Tesla may request photos or documents.
- Compare like with like: use the same model year and trim, and account for mileage, condition, history, options, modifications, location, and valuation date.
- Keep value types separate: compare Tesla’s offer with trade-in estimates, and compare private-party estimates only with a likely direct sale. Do not treat an estimate as a guaranteed offer.
- Recheck before acting: Tesla’s final offer is subject to inspection and expires after 30 days or 1,000 miles, whichever comes first.
