The headline matched a Notebookcheck report published on April 28, 2025, which described a larger three-row Model Y as a rumor and said it was unclear whether it would have six or seven seats. Tesla later confirmed a six-seat, longer-wheelbase Model YL for China. A separate seven-seat option was reported for the regular-wheelbase Model Y in the UK and other European markets in 2026.
What did the original “launch in May” report say?
Notebookcheck’s April 28, 2025 report treated a larger three-row Model Y and a May launch as rumors—not as a launch date announced by Tesla. What is the Model YL?
Tesla’s Q3 2025 update subsequently confirmed the Model YL in China. Tesla described it as a longer-wheelbase version of the Model Y with six seats arranged across three rows, introduced to expand its product range in that market. Is the European seven-seater the same car as the Model YL?
No. The later European and UK reporting concerns a seven-seat interior option for the regular-wheelbase Model Y, not the longer-wheelbase Chinese Model YL. Electrive reported that the regular Model Y’s exterior bodywork was unchanged. These are different configurations and should not be treated as one global launch.

When was the seven-seat Model Y expected in the UK?
In April 2026, Electrive reported that the UK configurator showed an estimated May 2026 delivery for the seven-seat Long Range AWD Model Y. That was a market-specific delivery estimate for the regular-wheelbase seven-seater—not proof of a May launch for the Model YL. How much room is behind the third row?
Electrive’s Germany/Europe report attributes the following cargo figures to Tesla: 381 litres with all seven seats in use and 894 litres with the third row folded. Electrive notes that independent past measurements suggested Tesla’s cargo figures may be optimistic; these are attributed figures, not independent measurements. The UK report characterizes the third row as primarily suitable for children. The cited reports do not provide independently verified passenger-space measurements, so try the seats with intended passengers before relying on them for regular trips.

Will a child seat fit in the third row?
Do not assume that every child restraint fits every seat. Tesla’s owner manual says usable child-restraint types can vary by seating position. Check the manual for the exact vehicle and seat position, then confirm fit with the restraint manufacturer’s guidance. Tesla Model Y owner manual.
