The tally is based on registration or retail data reported as deliveries; it is not a model-level delivery figure disclosed directly by Tesla. The monthly figures show a marked rise in the most recent quarter. The October 2026 count covers only October 1 and 2, so it is not a full-month comparison.

Why did sales rise in September?
September’s 291 units were up from 117 in August and 69 in September 2025. Autocar India reports that 554 Model Ys were registered from July through October 2, 2026, after monthly totals had remained below 70 through June.

The increase followed a reported ₹9 lakh price reduction in May that brought the Model Y Premium RWD’s ex-showroom price to ₹50.89 lakh. Autocar India and Autocar Professional connect the lower price with the subsequent acceleration in sales. The timing is consistent with that explanation, but the registration figures alone do not prove the price cut caused the increase.
How large is Tesla’s share of India’s EV market?
Autocar India reported 35,995 electric passenger-vehicle retail sales across India in September 2026. Tesla’s 291 units amounted to 0.80% of that overall e-PV total, according to the publication’s calculation. The report also said Tesla ranked second in the luxury electric passenger-vehicle segment for the first time, behind BMW, with a 30% share of that narrower segment. These are different denominators: the 0.80% figure covers all e-PV sales, while 30% refers only to luxury e-PVs.

Which Model Y versions are reported in India?
Autocar India describes a five-seat Model Y and a six-seat Model Y L. Its report lists these specifications; WLTP range figures are claims, not a promise of real-world range in Indian conditions.

What support infrastructure does Tesla have in India?
As of Autocar India’s October 5, 2026 report, Tesla had six showrooms, eight service locations, seven charging stations, 20 Superchargers and 24 Destination Chargers. The six showrooms were in Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai. Chennai was the newest location; its service and bodyshop operations brought the reported service-location count to eight.
