What the December 2024 video showed
Notebookcheck reported on December 13, 2024, that a two-second clip posted on X by @Y2KColin showed a camouflaged Model Y test vehicle in San Jose. The outlet said the footage offered a view of redesigned, two-part headlights. That is the narrow design detail the short clip was reported to show.

The sighting was not an official Tesla reveal, and the footage alone did not establish the full design or specifications. The report linked to the social post; the clip has not been independently authenticated here.
What the clip did not confirm
Notebookcheck also discussed a possible front-bumper camera, HW4 hardware, larger battery packs and a possible January 2025 debut. Those were pre-launch reporting or speculation, not details demonstrated by the two-second footage. The clip does not confirm battery chemistry, an 800-volt architecture or hardware configuration.

What Tesla later confirmed about the redesign
Tesla’s official overview describes a lower nose with a cross-car front lightbar, a redesigned rear lightbar and tailgate, and a refreshed interior. The listed cabin changes include ambient lighting, powered and reclining second-row seats, and an 8-inch rear touchscreen. Tesla also says it revised the suspension hardware and geometry.
TechCrunch’s January 9, 2025 reveal coverage reported the lighting changes, ambient lighting, powered rear seats, rear display and suspension updates. These later descriptions provide context for the redesign; they should not be attributed to what the short December clip itself proved.

Tesla’s published comfort and efficiency claims
Tesla’s overview, published April 1, 2025 and last updated December 12, 2025, says: “The comprehensive redesign has improved cabin quietness.” Tesla attributes the following comparisons to the redesigned vehicle versus earlier Model Y vehicles:
- Road noise reduced by 22%.
- Impact noise reduced by 20%.
- Wind noise reduced by 20%.
- 5% more range with the same battery energy.
These are manufacturer-published claims, not independently tested results established here.

Published figures for one trim
Tesla lists a 320-mile EPA-estimated range and a 4.1-second 0–60 mph time for the All-Wheel Drive trim. Those figures apply to that trim and market specification; check Tesla’s current local configuration for availability and exact details.

Yes. The January date discussed in December reporting was a forecast, but Tesla revealed the new-look Model Y for China and other Asia-Pacific markets on January 9, 2025. TechCrunch reported at the time that deliveries in China and some nearby markets were expected as early as March, while timing for the United States and Europe was then uncertain.

Tesla’s later overview says North American deliveries began in March and describes the redesigned Model Y as available. Availability and configurations vary by market and can change, so prospective buyers should consult Tesla’s current local listing.

What to take away from the sighting
- The December clip, as described by Notebookcheck, showed a camouflaged test car and visible split front headlights; it was not a full-vehicle reveal.
- The January 2025 launch became real, but it was a forecast when the December report was published.
- Tesla and reveal-time coverage later described broader exterior, cabin and suspension changes that the brief clip could not establish.
- Noise, range and acceleration figures should be read as Tesla-published claims and tied to the stated comparison or trim.
