When did the Model Y “Juniper” launch?
“Juniper” is the commonly used nickname for the refreshed Model Y; Tesla refers to it as the New Model Y. Tesla said the vehicle appeared on its global configurator in January 2025, with production ramp-up and deliveries planned for later in Q1 2025. A June 2025 filing confirmed that Tesla temporarily brought vehicle factories down simultaneously for the changeover, which contributed to a decline in combined Model 3 and Model Y deliveries during the transition.

By the end of 2025, Tesla described the Model Y refresh as complete and said the launch included additional variants. As of October 1, 2026, the relevant question is therefore which New Model Y version is available in your market—not whether the redesign is still coming.
What changed on the refreshed Model Y?
More range from the same battery energy
Tesla says the New Model Y delivers 5% more range with the same battery energy as earlier Model Y vehicles. That is an efficiency claim, not a universal distance figure: the EPA or other official range number depends on the exact variant, wheels and market. Check the live Tesla configurator for the specification sold where you live.

These are Tesla’s stated engineering changes. They should not be read as independent test results or as proof that every driver will perceive the same improvement on every road surface.

Additional variants and equipment
Tesla’s 2025 annual-results statement confirms that additional Model Y variants were introduced as part of the completed refresh. Variant names, equipment, range ratings and availability can differ by country and can change as Tesla updates its configurator.

Should you buy now or wait?
Buy the New Model Y if
- You want Tesla’s current Model Y design, with the company’s claimed efficiency, noise and ride revisions.
- The exact variant and equipment you need are currently available in your market.
- A live configurator quote, incentive or delivery window works for your budget and schedule.
Consider an earlier Model Y if
- You are shopping used and find a meaningful price difference after accounting for mileage, condition and remaining warranty.
- You value a specific earlier configuration that is no longer offered.
- You have verified the vehicle’s battery, accident and service history rather than relying only on its model year.
What waiting can—and cannot—do
Waiting for “Juniper” itself no longer makes sense because the redesign has already launched. Waiting for a particular trim, local inventory or a price change is a separate decision and should be based on the live configurator in your country. Tesla’s launch and production statements do not establish a single worldwide price or delivery date.
How to check the version sold in your market
- Open Tesla’s official website for your country and select Model Y.
- Compare the listed variant name, wheel choice, estimated range and included equipment.
- Review the displayed delivery estimate and any local incentive or financing information.
- Confirm that the vehicle shown is the New Model Y rather than remaining inventory of an earlier build.
- Save the final configuration and price, since Tesla can revise availability and offers by market.
What the 2025 factory changeover means for buyers
Tesla’s simultaneous factory changeover temporarily disrupted Model 3 and Model Y production while plants were converted to the refreshed vehicle. That helps explain delivery fluctuations during the 2025 ramp, but it is not evidence of an ongoing global shortage. Current availability must be checked region by region.

If you buy the New Model Y, verify fitment before ordering accessories. The refreshed body and interior can differ from earlier vehicles, so “Model Y” alone is not always enough for a floor mat, cargo liner, organizer or travel-protection product.
