America’s top-selling EV models in 2025
Cox Automotive/Kelley Blue Book’s year-end report ranks battery-electric models by estimated U.S. sales for calendar 2025. Its estimates are dated January 13, 2026.

All figures in the table are Cox Automotive/Kelley Blue Book estimates for U.S. model sales in 2025, rather than automaker-reported totals. The Model Y’s lead over the Model 3 was 165,088 estimated sales; the Model 3’s lead over the third-place Equinox EV was 134,495.
How the Model 3 estimate differs between KBB reports
Kelley Blue Book’s companion overview gives the Model 3 a different 2025 figure: 189,903, compared with 192,440 in the year-end model table. Both reports put Model Y at 357,528 and Equinox EV at 57,945. Because of that discrepancy, the ranking here uses the year-end report consistently; the Model 3 remains in second place under either figure.

What the rankings say about the wider U.S. EV market
Cox Automotive/Kelley Blue Book estimated total U.S. EV sales at 1,275,714 in 2025, a 2.0% decline from 2024. EVs accounted for an estimated 7.8% of new-vehicle sales, down from 8.1% in 2024. Cox described 2025 as the second-best year on record for EV sales, despite the year-over-year pullback.
Tesla also remained the largest EV brand in the United States. Cox Automotive/Kelley Blue Book estimated 589,160 Tesla EV sales in 2025, equal to 46.2% of the U.S. EV total and 7.0% below 2024. That brand-wide figure includes models beyond the two leading entries in the model ranking.

Why sales shifted sharply in the second half of 2025
The third quarter was a record quarter for U.S. EV sales, followed by an estimated 234,171 sales in Q4. That Q4 total was down 36.0% year over year and about 46% from Q3. Cox Automotive linked the change in demand patterns partly to federal EV sales incentives expiring at the start of October—not as the sole explanation for the quarterly decline.
Stephanie Valdez Streaty, Cox Automotive’s director of Industry Insights, said: “2025 unfolded largely as anticipated, with changes to federal EV incentives reshaping the demand patterns that drove record Q3 sales.” The quarterly swings help explain how the market could finish below 2024 while still recording its second-highest annual total.
