What was spotted in California?
On November 7, 2023, Autoevolution reported that an Ultra Red refreshed Tesla Model 3 had been seen in California. The prototype’s front and rear sections were covered, and red brake calipers were visible. The report identified the car as likely being the Performance variant based on those cues, while noting that the version was still under wraps at the time. Autoevolution’s report

Do red brake calipers confirm it was the Performance?
No. Red calipers were the visible clue used to infer that the covered prototype was a Performance Model 3; they do not amount to confirmation by Tesla. Because the car was partly covered and the variant had not been officially revealed in the report, its identity should be described as reported or believed to be the Performance version.

The available account does not establish the prototype’s price, range, acceleration, or equipment. It therefore cannot support a reliable comparison with other Model 3 trims. Tesla’s official Model 3 page notes that charging and range vary by vehicle configuration and operating conditions, but the page information reviewed does not establish current Performance specifications or availability.

In its November 2023 article, Autoevolution said the refreshed Model 3 had launched in Europe, China, and other markets, while North American deliveries had not yet begun. That was a snapshot of the situation described at the time, not a statement about current availability.
