Tesla reintroduced a seven-seat option for the refreshed Model Y in the United States in January 2026. Launch coverage said it adds two seats in a compact third row, costs $2,500, and is limited to the Premium All-Wheel Drive Long Range trim. Those are launch-era details; current price and availability have not been verified.
What the seven-seat Model Y adds
The option adds two seats behind the second row, bringing the standard-wheelbase Model Y’s total seating capacity to seven. Tesla described the cabin as having “fold-flat second-row and third-row seats,” as quoted by Engadget on January 13, 2026.
Launch price and eligible trim
At the US launch, Engadget and Cars.com reported a $2,500 option price and availability only with the Premium All-Wheel Drive Long Range trim. These reports date to January 13, 2026; they do not establish Tesla’s current price, configuration choices, or order status.
For a later European example, electrive.com reported on February 27, 2026 that the option had been introduced in Europe on the Premium Long Range AWD, listing €2,500 in Germany. That is a dated, Germany-specific report, not a current price for all European markets.

How usable is the third row?
Launch coverage describes the third row as compact rather than a full-size adult seating area. Engadget says the limited legroom suggests it is mainly designed for children; Cars.com also points to headroom and the seats’ proximity to the rear window as constraints. Neither source provides a measured occupant-size limit or an independent comfort test, so adult comfort is not established.
The layout may be useful for families who need occasional extra seats, particularly for children. Anyone expecting adults to ride there regularly should assess the actual cabin in person with the intended passengers before choosing this configuration.

Seven-seat Model Y versus Model Y L
The seven-seat option covered in US launch reports is not the Model Y L. Tesla’s Q3 2025 Update, published October 22, 2025, describes the Model Y L launched in China as a longer-wheelbase Model Y with six seats across three rows.

- Check the eligible trim, the option price, and the full configured vehicle price; launch-era prices may no longer apply.
- Confirm delivery timing and whether the third row works for the passengers who will use it.
