Tesla announced Lunar Silver for the Model S and Model X in its Q2 2024 update, released July 23, 2024. Tesla service documentation identifies the metallic paint as code PN02. The 2024 announcement confirms the launch, but does not establish that buyers can still order the color today in every market.
What Tesla announced in 2024
Tesla’s Q2 2024 update included the announcement, “LUNAR SILVER – NOW AVAILABLE FOR MODEL S AND MODEL X.” The update was released on July 23, 2024, according to Tesla’s Form 8-K. That establishes Lunar Silver’s announced availability for both models at that time; it does not confirm present-day availability.
Lunar Silver paint code and finish
Tesla’s 2021+ Model S service manual lists PN02 as Lunar Silver with a metallic finish. Tesla’s 2021+ Model X collision repair manual independently gives the same code and finish.
- 2021+ Model S service manual: PN02, Lunar Silver, metallic.
- 2021+ Model X collision repair manual: PN02, Lunar Silver, metallic.
How owners can check their vehicle’s paint code
Tesla says the paint code can be found in the vehicle’s Car Details or printed on a label affixed to the vehicle. The manuals direct owners to the Owner’s Manual for instructions on displaying Car Details. If you are matching paint for a repair, check that the vehicle’s code is PN02 rather than relying on the color name alone; the manuals identify the code and finish but do not endorse a particular repair-paint seller or product.

Can you order Lunar Silver now?
Current US availability is not confirmed by the official pages reviewed. Tesla’s current Model S page did not expose paint configuration details, and regional inventory depends on market and delivery location. A service-manual listing establishes the paint’s identity, not that it is currently offered for sale.
Tesla China’s promotions page, updated September 25, 2026, describes qualifying Model S and Model X inventory-order offers for eligible orders placed September 7 through October 31, 2026. Some eligible configurations can receive waivers or discounts on paid options, including paint, but the page does not name Lunar Silver or say that a Lunar Silver vehicle is in stock. It therefore does not confirm current Lunar Silver availability in China.
