A Tesla owner in Epping, northern Melbourne, said his car had been keyed and that its Sentry footage showed a woman dragging a key along the side. PerthNow reported the incident on 11 November 2024, quoting the owner as unsure whether to make an insurance claim. The report does not say whether police were notified or whether the damage was repaired.
What PerthNow reported about the Tesla keyed in Epping
PerthNow reported that Ibrahim Can found a deep scratch running from the back passenger door toward the front of his Tesla. The report described Can as a Coles safety advisor and said he checked the vehicle’s Sentry security-camera footage, which appeared to show a woman dragging a key along the car’s side.
PerthNow quoted a Facebook post attributed to Can: “Reviewed the footage and realised an elderly lady has keyed my car. Not sure if it is worth going through insurance,” Mr Can wrote in the post. That wording is the report’s quotation of his post, not an independently authenticated interview.
What is known—and what the report does not establish
The account and footage description here are based on PerthNow’s 11 November 2024 report; the original post and video have not been independently verified. The article said the post drew hundreds of likes and that commenters urged Can to contact police, but those reactions do not establish that he filed a report or that an investigation followed.

Does insurance cover a keyed car?
Can’s quoted post raises the question, but PerthNow’s report does not explain insurance coverage or give details of his policy. Whether a keyed-car claim is covered depends on the policy and the circumstances; this account is not enough to determine what Can’s insurer would have paid or whether he ultimately made a claim.
