Upper Allen Fire Department extinguished most of the flames and used more water to cool the battery pack. The available account does not identify what started the fire or establish that the Supercharger was involved.
What happened at the Mechanicsburg Sheetz?
Futurism reported that Upper Allen Fire Department responded shortly before 6 p.m. on Monday to a vehicle fire at a Sheetz fueling station in Mechanicsburg. The report, published July 11, 2024, describes the burning vehicle as a Tesla parked beside a Supercharger. It attributes the incident details to a Facebook post by the fire department; the vehicle’s model is not identified.
Firefighters put out most of the flames, then applied additional water to cool the battery pack. A local hazmat unit assisted with controlling spills and runoff. The report said no injuries were reported.
Does the report say the Supercharger caused the fire?
No. The department’s post, as described by Futurism, did not specify a cause. The Supercharger’s presence nearby is scene context, not evidence that charging equipment failed or that charging was taking place when the fire began.

Tesla’s Supercharger Emergency Response Guide distinguishes fires involving charging equipment from fires involving a vehicle and directs responders to vehicle-specific guidance when a vehicle fire is present. That is general emergency-response guidance; it does not identify the source of this particular fire.
What remains unconfirmed?
- The cause and point of origin of the Mechanicsburg fire.
- The Tesla model involved.
- Whether any later official investigation reached a finding. The available account does not provide one.
The National Transportation Safety Board has a page on a separate 2018 Tesla Model S fire in West Hollywood, but that incident does not supply missing facts about Mechanicsburg.
