Tesla Cybertrucks Booed and Pelted With Beads During New Orleans Mardi Gras Parade

Several Tesla Cybertrucks received a hostile reception during the Krewe of Orpheus parade in New Orleans on Monday, March 3, 2025—Lundi Gras, the day before Mardi Gras. Spectators loudly booed the vehicles and threw Mardi Gras beads and other objects. Storyful’s video listing describes footage in which a man throws beads at a Cybertruck and strikes its side.

At least one truck was reportedly left with cracked or broken glass. However, the available evidence does not establish that beads alone caused a particular window to fail, nor does it prove that police formally removed the vehicles or that Tesla officially organized the appearance.

Several contemporary reports described the trucks as support or marshal vehicles associated with a local Cybertruck owners’ group. The precise relationship between the owners, the krewe and the official parade organizers has not been firmly established. There is no reliable confirmation that Tesla sponsored the parade or authorized the appearance.

The strongest version of the viral claim is therefore substantially accurate: Cybertrucks were booed and targeted with thrown beads during the parade. The more dramatic versions—including claims about exactly how many trucks were involved, who ordered them off the route and precisely what broke the glass—need attribution.

When and where did it happen?

  • Date: Monday, March 3, 2025.
  • Occasion: Lundi Gras, during the New Orleans Mardi Gras season.
  • Parade: Krewe of Orpheus.
  • Location: The parade route, with reports placing vehicles on St. Charles Avenue and nearby streets.

This was not Mardi Gras Day itself. Mardi Gras Day fell on March 4, 2025; the Cybertruck incident occurred the preceding day.

What the videos show

Video evidence supports the core description of the confrontation. The trucks move through a dense parade environment while spectators boo and throw beads. Storyful’s listing also describes a man approaching a Cybertruck, throwing beads and punching or striking its side.

That footage is more reliable for establishing visible conduct than for answering questions such as the total number of vehicles, the identities or motives of spectators, or the final repair bill. Those details come mainly from news reports, owners and eyewitness posts.

Axios reported that paradegoers booed five Cybertrucks. Other eyewitness accounts described three or four. The safest conclusion is that several trucks were present, with five reported by Axios, rather than treating five as an independently documented final count.

Were the trucks officially part of the parade?

Reports say the Cybertrucks were connected to a local owners’ group and were being used to transport parade marshals or other participants. That explains why they were near the procession, but it does not by itself establish an official Tesla role or a formal endorsement by Krewe of Orpheus.

Some social-media discussions attributed the appearance to a club member’s invitation or influence. Those accounts may help explain how the vehicles appeared on the route, but they are anecdotal. Neither Tesla sponsorship nor a formal organizer statement is established by the available research.

Was a Cybertruck window broken?

At least one Cybertruck reportedly suffered damaged or broken glass. An owner posted footage and said the truck’s cameras and driving systems continued to function despite the damage. That is the owner’s account, not an independent inspection or engineering test.

Reports differ over whether the damage involved a side window, windshield or another pane, and whether beads, a fist or other debris caused it. Accounts also mention cups, cans, bottles, drinks and other objects, but those details are primarily based on eyewitness or owner reports.

It is accurate to say that at least one truck reportedly sustained cracked or broken glass. It is not accurate to say that the incident proves beads shattered Tesla’s advertised “bulletproof” or armored glass. The force, object, angle, distance and prior condition of the glass were uncontrolled, so a parade video cannot produce a meaningful laboratory conclusion about the Cybertruck’s design.

Why did the crowd react so strongly?

No available source measures the motives of every spectator, so the reaction should not be reduced to a single explanation. Several factors likely overlapped:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. The truck is impossible to miss. Its angular stainless-steel body is instantly recognizable, making it a prominent target for attention in a parade.
  2. The Cybertruck is culturally polarizing. Its styling, launch history and online reputation have made it a frequent subject of mockery and debate.
  3. Elon Musk is politically divisive. Musk’s increasingly visible political role likely shaped some spectators’ reactions, although that does not show that everyone was protesting him or Tesla.
  4. Parade crowds amplify visible reactions. Once a few people begin booing, a response can spread quickly through a large crowd.
  5. The setting encouraged interaction. New Orleans parade crowds, alcohol and a ready supply of throws created an environment in which a conspicuous and controversial vehicle could attract unusually aggressive attention.

Contemporary coverage connected the reaction to both the Cybertruck’s image and Musk’s public profile, but that remains an interpretation rather than a scientifically measured finding. The incident does not demonstrate that New Orleans—or the wider public—held a uniform anti-Tesla view.

Does throwing beads count as normal Mardi Gras behavior?

Parade throws are a normal part of Mardi Gras. Beads and other items are traditionally tossed to people along the route, who try to catch them. That context matters, but it does not make deliberately targeting occupied vehicles harmless.

Booing, gestures and verbal criticism are forms of public ridicule or protest. Throwing hard objects at a moving vehicle can endanger the driver, passengers and nearby spectators. Approaching a truck to punch it crosses beyond ordinary parade participation and may constitute property interference or other unlawful conduct, depending on the facts and applicable law.

The available reports do not establish that anyone was arrested or charged. They also do not establish a formal police order removing all of the trucks. Some accounts said vehicles left the route early or received police assistance, but those claims should remain attributed rather than presented as official findings.

Why the incident was linked to Cybertruck glass claims

Tesla has marketed the Cybertruck around toughness and durability, including highly resistant glass. That branding made footage of damaged glass especially shareable: the scene appeared to contrast the vehicle’s rugged image with a chaotic public confrontation.

But the Mardi Gras episode was not a controlled impact test. A punch, a strand of beads or another object can interact with glass differently depending on speed, angle, contact point and whether the pane already had damage. The event may illustrate why the vehicle’s durability claims attracted attention, but it cannot establish that the Cybertruck passed or failed an engineering standard.

What is verified—and what remains uncertain?

Claim What the evidence supports
Cybertrucks appeared during the Krewe of Orpheus parade Well supported by contemporary reporting and video-related coverage.
The date was March 3, 2025 Well supported; it was Lundi Gras.
Spectators booed the trucks Supported by video and multiple reports.
Beads were thrown Supported by video and multiple reports.
A person struck a truck Supported by Storyful’s description of the footage.
At least one truck had damaged glass Supported by owner and media accounts, although the exact vehicle and cause are less certain.
Exactly five trucks were involved Reported by Axios, but inconsistent eyewitness counts make the exact total uncertain.
Police formally removed the trucks Not independently confirmed in the strongest available sources.
Tesla officially sponsored the appearance Not verified.
The event disproved Tesla’s glass claims Not established; the incident was not a controlled test.

The bottom line on the viral video

The viral story is real in its essential form. During the Krewe of Orpheus parade in New Orleans on March 3, 2025, several Cybertrucks were loudly booed and pelted with Mardi Gras beads, and video shows at least one person striking a vehicle. At least one truck reportedly sustained glass damage.

What the incident does not prove is equally important. It was not evidence of a citywide referendum on Tesla, an official anti-Cybertruck stance by the krewe, a confirmed police expulsion or a controlled test of Tesla’s armored-glass claims. It was a hostile crowd reaction involving both public ridicule and potentially dangerous physical conduct.
