What the latest Cybertruck recall covers
NHTSA recall 26V255 identifies certain model-year 2024–2026 Cybertrucks manufactured from March 21, 2024, through November 25, 2025, and equipped with 18-inch steel wheels, whether fitted in production or in service. The filing lists 173 potentially involved vehicles and gives a manufacturer-estimated defect rate of 5%; that estimate is not an observed rate for all Cybertrucks. Why NHTSA says the condition matters
According to Tesla’s description in the filing, road impacts and cornering can strain the brake-rotor stud hole. Cracking may develop there; if it progresses, a wheel stud could separate from the hub. NHTSA states: “Wheel stud separation may affect vehicle controllability, increasing the risk of a collision.” Initial cracking may be detectable as vibration or noise, according to the filing.
Repair for affected vehicles
The remedy is a no-cost replacement of the front and rear brake rotors, hubs and lug nuts. The filing says the replacement geometry increases the contact area and the replacement lug nuts have a higher-friction coating. It lists the consumer advisory as “Do Not Drive Park Outside”; that field alone does not establish broader driving instructions. Follow current guidance from Tesla for your VIN.

A separate 2025 recall involved software, not the wheel components
NHTSA recall 25V699 covered a different condition. Its filing lists 63,619 potentially involved 2024–2026 vehicles produced from November 13, 2023, through October 11, 2025, running software earlier than version 2025.38.3. The filing estimated a 100% defect rate within that campaign’s defined population; this is not a statement about all Cybertrucks or other recalls. The issue was controller software that could command front parking-lamp intensity above the maximum allowed under FMVSS 108. Details are in the NHTSA Part 573 Safety Recall Report for 25V699.
Tesla says software version 2025.38.3 or later corrects the lamp output through an over-the-air update, with no service visit required. Owners can check the installed software version on the vehicle touchscreen or in the Tesla app. Tesla’s recall support page explains how to check campaign information and software status.

Why “every Cybertruck” is misleading
Cybertruck recalls are separate campaigns, not one fleet-wide finding. Each has its own production dates, qualifying equipment or software, defect and remedy. Earlier Tesla-listed examples illustrate that distinction:

These examples show multiple distinct campaigns; they do not establish that every Cybertruck was affected by any one of them or that the same defect has recurred across the fleet.

How to check whether a Cybertruck still needs recall work
- Find the vehicle identification number (VIN) and enter it in Tesla’s recall lookup or NHTSA’s recall lookup tool.
- Review any listed campaign and whether the remedy is still outstanding. Model year alone does not confirm eligibility or completion.
- For an open campaign, use Tesla’s official instructions to arrange service or confirm the applicable software update. Tesla says recall service is free regardless of vehicle age or mileage.
Recall populations and repair status can change, so the VIN result is the useful check for an individual vehicle.
