Tesla’s April 2024 recall covers 3,878 potentially involved model year 2024 Cybertrucks because a pedal pad could dislodge and become trapped in trim above the accelerator pedal. The remedy is a free Tesla inspection and repair or replacement of the accelerator pedal assembly. Check your vehicle’s VIN with Tesla or NHTSA to find out whether this recall applies and whether the repair is recorded as complete; build date alone cannot confirm its present status.
What is the Cybertruck accelerator pedal recall?
NHTSA campaign 24V-276 concerns 3,878 potentially involved 2024 model year Cybertrucks. Tesla reported a 100% estimated defect rate within that recall population. That figure describes the vehicles potentially involved in the recall filing; it is not a count of Cybertrucks that experienced a trapped pedal. The reported build window was November 13, 2023, through April 4, 2024. Owners should use the VIN lookup rather than assume eligibility or repair status from a vehicle’s build date. What could happen to the accelerator pedal?
Tesla said an unapproved process change used soap lubricant to help assemble the pedal pad onto the accelerator pedal. Residual lubricant reduced the pad’s retention, so it could come loose and become trapped in trim above the pedal. NHTSA warned: “A trapped accelerator pedal can cause the vehicle to accelerate unintentionally, increasing the risk of a crash.” NHTSA’s April 18, 2024 recall acknowledgment
Tesla’s filing also says applying the brake cuts drive torque even if both pedals are pressed, and continued brake application brings the vehicle to a stop. That is information from the recall filing, not a reason to leave an open recall unrepaired. Tesla’s recall report

Is my vehicle affected by this recall?
Check the VIN to determine whether your Cybertruck is covered and whether its remedy is complete. Tesla’s recall page lets owners look up the vehicle and arrange service; the NHTSA recall lookup is another way to check an individual vehicle. A build date within the reported window is not a substitute for a VIN check, and a vehicle’s current repair status cannot be inferred from its build date alone.
What is the repair, and does it cost anything?
Tesla’s stated remedy is free rework or replacement of the accelerator pedal assembly to ensure adequate retention. The April 18, 2024 Tesla service bulletin describes inspection followed by securing the pedal pad with a rivet or replacing the assembly. It specifies dedicated service tooling, including a drilling jig, and warns against attempting the procedure without that jig. What did Tesla report in 2024?
Tesla’s report traces the decision to customer claims received March 31 and April 3, 2024. Tesla Engineering reviewed vehicle logs on April 2 and later reviewed images confirming the first condition. After additional testing, Tesla decided on April 12 to voluntarily recall the affected vehicles and submitted its report to NHTSA on April 17. Tesla’s Part 573 Safety Recall Report
