When did Tesla start delivering the refreshed Model X?
Tesla’s first reported customer deliveries of the refreshed Model X began in October 2021. The company announced the milestone with the post, “First deliveries of new Model X,” published on October 17, 2021. Electrek reported the announcement on October 16, and Engadget covered it on October 17.
What was known about the first handovers?
Contemporary reports described a small delivery event in Fremont, California. Engadget reported that the vehicles at the event were six-seat examples. That observation applies to the vehicles seen at the event; it does not confirm that Tesla was limiting all early deliveries to that seating configuration. No independently verified total for the number of refreshed Model X vehicles handed over at the event was established.
What did the 2021 redesign change?
Tesla’s later overview describes the 2021 Model S and Model X redesign as bringing a new powertrain and chassis, alongside redesigned exteriors and interiors. The company’s overview also lists a range of improvements associated with more recent refreshes. Because that overview spans later developments, not every item should be read as a feature introduced with the first October 2021 deliveries.

Improvements Tesla lists in its later overview
- More wind- and road-noise insulation, sound-absorbent interior materials and active noise cancelling.
- New wheel designs, low-resistance tires and aerodynamic wheels.
- Dynamic ambient lighting, a roomier Model X third row with additional shoulder space, and a front fascia camera.
- A blind spot indicator, adaptive headlights, increased range and revised air suspension.
Tesla says the Model X Plaid produces 1,020 bhp and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds while carrying six passengers and their gear. Those are Tesla’s claims for the Plaid variant, as stated in the company’s 2025 overview, not independently verified test results. Tesla’s overview
What did the 2021 delivery figures actually count?
Tesla reported 9,275 Model S and Model X deliveries combined in its third-quarter 2021 release. The figure covers both models and is not a count of refreshed Model X units. Engadget reported that, as of October 17, 2021, estimated delivery timing shown for new orders was July 2022 for Model X Plaid and September 2022 for Long Range. These were historical estimates at that time, not present-day delivery waits.
