Tesla and Polestar recorded 5,854 battery-electric vehicle deliveries in Australia in September 2026, about 19.5% more than the 4,899 reported for the same month in 2025. Tesla’s Model Y family accounted for 4,476 of this year’s deliveries. These figures come from the Electric Vehicle Council’s two-brand monthly series—not a count of every EV brand sold in Australia.
How many Teslas were delivered in Australia in September?
Tesla recorded 5,654 September 2026 deliveries, according to WhichCar’s account of the figures. Polestar recorded 200, bringing the two brands’ combined total to 5,854. The Electric Vehicle Council (EVC) counts vehicles when they are delivered, rather than when customers place orders.

How many Model Ys were delivered, and did deliveries rise?
The Model Y family recorded 4,476 September deliveries—about 76% of the EVC’s combined Tesla–Polestar total. WhichCar reported 3,927 Model Y family deliveries in September 2025, making this year’s count about 14% higher.

The same EVC series recorded 1,178 Tesla Model 3 deliveries in September 2026, up 60% from the previous September. The Model Y’s larger count made it the leading contributor among the figures reported for the two-brand series.

What do the year-to-date figures show?
Through September 2026, Tesla and Polestar had recorded 43,386 combined deliveries in the EVC series, compared with 24,521 over the same period in 2025. WhichCar reports that as a 76.9% year-to-date increase. This is a cumulative nine-month comparison for those two brands, not an all-brand Australian EV growth rate.

September’s two-brand total should not be confused with the EVC’s market-wide August estimates. In August 2026, BEVs made up 24.9% of Australian new-vehicle sales, while BEVs and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) together accounted for 36%. The Model Y recorded 6,414 August sales. Those figures describe August, not September. The EVC published the August figures in its August 2026 release.

The EVC also reported a record 8,072 Model Y sales in June 2026. In its June release, EVC chief executive Julie Delvecchio said end-of-financial-year sales and deliveries of pre-orders had contributed to that month’s result and were unlikely to recur soon.
