Tesla and Pilot have opened their first joint Megacharger site at Pilot #1390 in Ellabell, Georgia. The site has six heavy-duty charging stalls. Pilot said 12 more locations were under construction, making this an early step in a planned freight-corridor network—not a fully built-out system.
Where can Tesla Semis charge at Pilot travel centers?
The first joint Tesla–Pilot site is at Pilot #1390, 130 Interstate Exchange Way, Ellabell, Georgia. Pilot’s announcement describes six heavy-duty charging stalls at the location. Pilot’s opening announcement also said 12 additional heavy-duty charging locations were under construction.

Pilot named three sites as nearing completion in that announcement: Flying J #1071 in Tulare, California; Flying J #553 in Fort Stockton, Texas; and Pilot #341 in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Pilot gave October 9, 2026 as the expected opening date for Tulare; that was an expectation, not confirmation of an opening. Check Tesla’s Semi charging map and site information for current availability before routing a truck.

Tesla’s January 28, 2026 investor update showed a map titled “TESLA SEMI – MEGACHARGER NETWORK PLANNED SITES FOR 2026.” Those map pins represented planned sites at that time; a planned location is not necessarily built or open. Can other electric trucks use a Tesla Megacharger?
No. Tesla says its current Megacharger sites support Tesla Semi trucks only. This is not presently an open, multi-brand heavy-duty charging network. Tesla says drivers can find locations through the Semi touchscreen or Tesla app; reservations are not supported. Most stations are open for charging 24 hours, but hours and nearby amenities can vary by site. Confirm the details for a specific stop in Tesla’s current listing. Tesla’s Semi charging support page covers access and site use.
How fast does a Megacharger charge a Tesla Semi?
Tesla advertises Megacharger output of up to 1.2 megawatts and says a Semi can recover up to 60% of its range in 30 minutes. These are maximum claims, not guaranteed results: Tesla says charging rate depends on battery state of charge, battery temperature and whether another truck is charging. Pilot’s opening announcement describes up to 1.2 MW per stall. Pilot’s announcement and Tesla’s charging guidance state the figures and qualifications.

Tesla’s commercial page separately says a Megacharger cabinet can deliver up to 1,200 kW DC shared by two posts. That cabinet-level rating should not be read as a promise that both posts can simultaneously supply 1,200 kW each. Tesla’s commercial charging page describes the cabinet configuration.
How Megacharger billing works
Tesla says Megacharging is billed monthly to the fleet’s Tesla for Business account. Prices vary by site and can fluctuate, but the price shown when a truck plugs in stays fixed for that charging session. Idle fees begin after a five-minute grace period once charging is complete. Fleets should check the displayed site price and avoid leaving a truck connected after charging ends. Tesla’s Semi charging support page explains billing and idle fees.

Megacharger versus Basecharger
Tesla positions Megacharger for quick en-route stops and Basecharger for longer depot stops or overnight charging. The distinction is about where charging fits into fleet operations: corridor charging supports a route, while depot charging is intended for vehicles parked for longer periods.
| System | Intended use | Power stated by Tesla | Access and availability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Megacharger | Quick stops while travelling | Up to 1.2 MW per stall in Pilot’s opening announcement; Tesla’s commercial page describes up to 1,200 kW DC shared by two posts | Current public sites support Tesla Semi trucks only; site availability and hours vary |
| Basecharger | Longer stops and depot or overnight charging | 120 kW; Tesla says it can add up to 60% in four hours | Tesla’s commercial page estimated deliveries beginning in early 2027 |
Power and charging-time figures are Tesla claims, and the two Megacharger descriptions refer to different contexts: a per-stall figure in the opening announcement and shared cabinet output on Tesla’s commercial page. Tesla’s commercial charging page describes Basecharger use and its delivery estimate.

What the Pilot locations change—and what they do not
Placing chargers at travel centers links high-power charging to existing freight routes and stops, alongside the amenities and services at those locations. Pilot says it operates more than 900 locations across 43 U.S. states and five Canadian provinces, and offers fleet services including fuel, credit, factoring, maintenance and rewards. Those are Pilot’s descriptions of its own network and services, not evidence that every service is available at every charging site. Pilot’s partnership announcement gives the network and service details.
Pilot’s senior vice president of alternative fuels, Shannon Sturgil, described the rationale as bringing heavy-duty charging to key trucking routes and pairing it with services and amenities drivers rely on. That is the company’s stated aim; the available announcements do not quantify what share of truck stops occur at travel centers or establish driver preferences.

For now, the practical limits are significant: the sites are for Tesla Semis, the announced network is still being built, and individual locations must be checked for current operating status. The project is an attempt to add high-power charging at established truck stops, but it is not yet a widely available charging option for electric trucks from other manufacturers.
