The fourth-generation Tern Vektron adds the P5i, a belt-drive folding e-bike with a Gates belt and Shimano Nexus 5 internal hub. The P10 remains the derailleur option, using a 1×10 drivetrain. The key buying decision is whether you prefer the P5i’s cleaner, internally geared setup or the P10’s sportier riding position and derailleur drivetrain. Tern announced the update in September 2025 and said the new generation was available in the US in November.
What changed in the fourth-generation Vektron?
Tern’s September 2025 update adds a Bosch Smart System, a revised Bosch Performance motor and the long-requested belt-drive configuration. The new belt model is called the Vektron P5i; it is a separate configuration, not a belt conversion for the P10. Tern’s US launch announcement followed on November 13, 2025.
Tern Team Captain Josh Hon described the engineering challenge this way: “It’s really hard to build a bike that rides like a great ebike and folds like a great folding bike.” Tern’s September 17, 2025 announcement outlines the update.
Vektron P5i vs. P10: which drivetrain fits you?

These are configuration differences, not evidence that one setup is universally better. A belt and internally geared hub may appeal if you want less greasy contact when handling or storing a folded bike. A chain-and-derailleur setup may suit riders who prefer the P10’s sportier position and conventional shifting arrangement. Consider your route, shifting preference, maintenance tolerance and access to local service. Tern’s descriptions of the belt as cleaner, quieter and lower-maintenance are manufacturer claims; no independent comparative test is established here.

How much does the Vektron P5i cost, and where is it available?
Tern’s November 2025 North American announcement listed the P5i at $4,099 USD or $6,399 CAD and the P10 at $3,699 USD or $5,799 CAD. Tern’s September 2025 European announcement gave a starting price of €3,999, while noting that exact prices and model availability vary by market. These are announced figures, not a guarantee of today’s local retail price.

Tern’s US store listing showed the P5i at $4,099 and marked it “back soon” when accessed for this article. That listing does not establish current stock at other dealers or in other countries. Check with a local Tern dealer for availability and a current quote. Tern says e-bike purchases ship to a nearby Tern dealer for assembly; if no Tern dealer is nearby, it offers a Bosch-certified retailer option. The US P5i product page has the store listing.
Does the Tern Vektron fold, and what does that mean in practice?
Yes. Tern says the Vektron folds in under 10 seconds, locks securely and rolls on its own wheels when folded. That can help commuters combining cycling with transit, city riders who need indoor storage, and travelers carrying a bike in a car or RV. A compact fold does not by itself mean the bike is easy for you to lift: consider the stairs, vehicle loading height and storage route you will actually use.

Tern UK lists the Gen 4 P10’s folded size as 41 × 86 × 68 cm, a 10-second fold time, one frame size and a suggested rider-height range of 147–195 cm. These are UK P10 specifications, not a universal guarantee for every market or the P5i. Tern cautions that specifications may vary by country and components may change. Check your market’s listing and try the fit locally. The UK Vektron range page provides the market-specific product information.
Motor torque: why Tern’s published figures conflict
Tern’s September 2025 launch announcement says the updated Bosch Performance motor produces 75 Nm, up from 65 Nm previously. However, the US Tern Store P5i page lists 65 Nm for the new model. The two Tern sources do not reconcile the discrepancy, so do not assume one figure applies to every market or production bike. Confirm the exact torque specification for the bike you are considering with a local dealer, and check that it matches the bike’s country-specific documentation.

What Tern says about safety, warranty and parts support
Tern says the Vektron is tested to meet EN 15194 and UL 2849 certified, and that the electrical system—motor, battery and charger—is independently verified. Its US product listing also describes UL 2849 certification and third-party testing for compliance with EN 15194. These are manufacturer statements about testing and certification, not guarantees against injury or theft.
Tern’s 2025 announcement says extended coverage may be available for the frame, handlepost and fork for up to 10 years, and that it will support replacement-parts availability, including battery and electronics, for at least seven years.
