The epa-1 is an electric sit-down moped developed by Swedish micromobility company Vässla with audio-design brand Teenage Engineering. New Atlas reported two motor configurations, two removable battery sizes, and a Swedish price in June 2025. Those figures are product-report details, not independent test results, and the report does not establish the moped’s current price, availability, or legal status in any particular market.
How Teenage Engineering and Vässla came to build a moped
Vässla co-owner Mikael Andersson approached Teenage Engineering because he admired its design work. As he put it, “Hey, shall we build a moped together?” The response, according to New Atlas, was “Well, that sounds fun.”
The partners traveled to China to look at existing products and found a factory willing to develop a new design from drawings. Andersson described a process of repeated teardown, rebuilding, and custom-part development. The result was the epa-1, which New Atlas describes as an electric moped or sit-down scooter. The name is explained as “En Passer Alla,” translated as “One Fits All.”

The report says the battery is removable and lists 140 Nm of torque and three drive modes for the epa-1, without specifying in the report which motor configuration those figures apply to. Treat the range numbers as reported estimates rather than guarantees: riding conditions, load, speed, terrain, and temperature can affect real-world range, and New Atlas does not provide test conditions.
Road-use rules depend on where you ride
The reported top speeds do not establish how a specific epa-1 is classified or where it may legally be ridden. Licensing, registration, helmet requirements, and access to bicycle paths depend on local rules and potentially on the exact motor configuration and certification. New Atlas cautions that rules vary by region; it does not establish current certification or legal eligibility for any country. Check with the relevant transport authority and confirm the exact version’s paperwork before buying or riding.

Features, weight, and carrying capacity
New Atlas describes practical equipment alongside the epa-1’s customization potential:
- Lighting: A dual-beam LED headlight, brake light, and turn signals.
- Alarm and rear-wheel lock: The alarm is activated by NFC or remote; the report says the rear wheel locks automatically when the alarm sounds.
- Parking: A double-leg kickstand sits beneath the battery bay.
- Weight and load: The reported vehicle mass is 60 kg (132 lb) without the battery. Its stated 150 kg (330 lb) load rating includes rider, battery, passenger, and cargo—not an additional 150 kg of cargo.
- Mounting points: Reinforced mounting points are intended to support modifications and personalization.

Price, availability, and accessories: what the report establishes
On June 17, 2025, New Atlas reported that the black epa-1 was available to order in Sweden for SEK 19,990, described at the time as about US$2,100. It said other colors were expected later that month at the same price. The article did not confirm US availability. This dated report cannot establish current price, inventory, or which countries the epa-1 is sold in.
The article also named a front rack, passenger seating, a helmet box, and a bike lock as accessories. It did not provide part numbers, fitment details, or current stock information. Confirm compatibility and availability with Vässla or an authorized seller before relying on any accessory for a particular epa-1.

What to confirm before considering one
- Whether the epa-1 is currently sold in your country, and the current total price.
- Which motor and battery configuration is being offered, and the documentation that identifies it.
- Local classification, licensing, registration, road-use, and bicycle-path rules for that exact version.
- Whether the quoted range suits your needs; the figures reported by New Atlas are estimates, not independent range-test results.
- Battery and accessory compatibility, warranty terms, and local service support.
New Atlas’ June 17, 2025 report is the source for the collaboration account, specifications, features, and historical Swedish price.
