TEDPoP is a pop-up hardshell rooftop tent with floor sections that fold out on both sides of a central shell. TEDS Outdoor says its current product sleeps four and has two entrances; the dual-wing layout expands the sleeping platform while leaving the center section over the vehicle. Its published specifications are manufacturer figures, not independent performance results.
How the dual-wing design works
The central ABS hard shell pops open, while two floor sections extend outward to form a wider sleeping platform. TEDS Outdoor describes four-side windows and two entrances. New Atlas reported in May 2021 that setup involves lifting the strut-assisted top, folding out both extensions, placing the ladders, and pitching the entry and window awnings. That is a reported description of the design, not an independent test of setup time or ease.
TEDS Outdoor calls TEDPoP “the world’s first dual expandable hard-shell rooftop tent.” That is the manufacturer’s claim; the available sources do not independently establish it as a category-first product.
Capacity and published specifications
Capacity claims vary by source and version. TEDS Outdoor’s current homepage and its 2024 4P manual say the tent sleeps up to four. An older manual says four to five, as does the Japanese product page, so those higher figures should not be treated as universal for every version or market.

The manufacturer’s 2024 manual and the older manual differ on weight, while the product’s capacity also varies across materials. Check the exact product version and its documentation before using a specification to assess fit or load.
What the published dimensions tell you
A Kickstarter campaign FAQ updated May 28, 2021, lists the main mattress as 72.8 × 45.3 × 2.5 inches and each secondary mattress as 70.8 × 18.7 × 2.5 inches. It gives an internal height of 45.3 inches and warns that some dimensions may change. These are campaign FAQ figures, not a current independent measurement.

The extensions create sleeping space beyond the central roof-mounted section, but the available sources do not establish vehicle-specific compatibility or the amount of roof overhang for every installation. Compare the listed sleeping dimensions with the number and size of occupants, and check the packed and open dimensions for the version you are considering.
Vehicle and rack checks before buying
At approximately 85 kg before installation, the tent’s stated weight is an important starting point, not a complete roof-load calculation. The available product sources do not provide a vehicle compatibility table or a complete mounting-load specification. Verify the limits for your particular vehicle and rack with their manufacturers.

- Confirm your vehicle’s roof and rack limits, including the applicable dynamic and stationary load limits, and account for the tent, mounting hardware, and occupants as required by the vehicle and rack makers.
- Check the tent’s mounting requirements and whether the rack can accommodate its footprint and attachment points.
- Compare open and closed dimensions, sleeping-platform dimensions, and the clearance needed for both extensions, ladders, and entry awnings.
- Ask the seller which version is being supplied and request its current manual, dimensions, and warranty terms.
Design trade-offs and comparisons
New Atlas’s 2021 report noted that corner lift hardware occupies space and that the folding extensions taper inward to fit between the lift points. These are observations about the layout, not a complete independent evaluation of durability, weather performance, or usability.

- Rain-fly rating, ventilation, condensation management, and suitability for the climates where you expect to camp.
- Warranty, local service, delivery, and the total price in your region.
The sources available here do not provide independent comparative measurements, vehicle compatibility tests, or field-test results. They therefore do not establish that TEDPoP is safer, more stable, more aerodynamic, leakproof, or quicker to pitch than competing tents.
Price, warranty, and availability
The TEDS Outdoor US product page showed a price of $4,490 and a one-year warranty when surfaced in search results. The manufacturer’s 2024 manual states a two-year warranty, and the sources do not explain the difference. Treat the displayed price as time-sensitive and confirm the warranty for the exact version and buyer location before ordering.
