In July 2023, New Atlas reported a 24 mph top speed and launch-era ranges of 26 miles for the standard model and 39 miles for Plus. Those are published specifications, not independently tested results, and the available sources do not establish whether the Taur II is on sale or shipping today.
How does the Taur II let you ride facing forward?
A conventional stand-up scooter puts both feet in line on a narrow deck, so the rider usually faces partly sideways. Taur’s layout separates the foot platforms into a “twin ski” arrangement, letting the rider stand facing forward. Red Dot’s 2022 design-concept entry described the position as allowing the rider to face forward “just like being in a car or on a bicycle.” That entry concerns the Taur road-scooter concept; it is useful context for the design, not a current Taur II specification sheet.
The stance changes the scooter’s footprint and how the rider places their feet. Red Dot characterized the concept as wider than a standard e-scooter and described vertical storage, electronic and physical locking, and modular servicing. Those are design-entry descriptions; they do not establish a controlled comparison with conventional scooters or confirm every Taur II production detail.
What are the Taur II’s reported speed, range and weight?
New Atlas’s July 19, 2023 launch report described two versions and a 500 W rear-hub motor. The figures below are launch-era specifications as reported by that publication, not results from an independent range or speed test.

| Version | Reported range | Reported weight |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 26 miles (42 km) | 43 lb (19.5 kg) |
| Plus | 39 miles (about 63 km) | A couple of pounds heavier than standard |
New Atlas reported a 24 mph (39 km/h) top speed for the Taur II motor, with the actual limit varying by destination country. The source does not establish real-world range under particular rider weights, routes, weather, terrain or riding speeds, so treat the range numbers as claimed ratings rather than a promise of distance on a charge.
The published weight matters alongside the design: at 43 lb for the standard version and a couple of pounds more for Plus, this is not a lightweight carry-on scooter. The larger tires and longer wheelbase are part of the revised package, but the cited sources do not provide a folded-dimension comparison or a controlled portability test.

What changed in the second generation?
New Atlas’s July 2023 report described the Taur II as a more substantial update to the original concept than a change in rider position. It reported the following equipment and chassis details:
- Wheels and frame: 12.5-inch Unilli puncture-resistant tires, a longer wheelbase and a foldable powder-coated aluminum frame.
- Braking: a front hydraulic disc brake paired with rear regenerative braking.
- Handlebar controls: trigger throttle, manual cruise control, LED battery-status display and a Quad Lock smartphone mount.
- App and tracking: the Taur app was described as a digital dashboard and navigation aid; the article also reported GPS tracking through Apple’s Find My network.
- Lighting: a 300-lumen Cree headlight, an 80-lumen brake/tail light, projection lighting intended to illuminate the rider’s back, and 200-lumen turn signals.
These details come from a launch-era report, not a present-day verified configuration list. The report does not establish the exact Quad Lock mount model or phone-case compatibility.

Is the Taur II available now?
The available campaign records and FAQ do not establish current Taur II inventory, retail price, fulfillment status or regional delivery. Taur’s Kickstarter page records $280,708 pledged against a $25,000 goal by 234 backers during a campaign that ran from July 18 to August 17, 2023; the page was last updated February 29, 2024. Those are historical crowdfunding figures, not evidence of current sales or deliveries.
Taur’s campaign FAQ said the Taur II was “set to ship in May 2024,” while explicitly warning that the date was an estimate and production delays could occur. The FAQ described intended shipment to nearly 30 countries, including the US, Canada, UK and EU, in its July 2023 entry. Neither the estimate nor the target regions confirm what ultimately shipped or what can be ordered now. Check Taur’s current official sales and delivery information before treating an old preorder or campaign page as an active offer.

The same FAQ says Taur’s first generation launched on Kickstarter in 2020 and shipped in 2022. That is the company’s statement; it is not independent verification of customer satisfaction. The sources do not document the Taur II’s campaign fulfillment outcome.
What should a prospective rider verify?
- Availability and delivery: confirm that the specific Taur II version is currently orderable, its delivery estimate, and whether it ships to your location.
- Current configuration: check the seller’s current specification sheet for motor, battery, range, weight, brakes, lights and included accessories; do not assume every launch-reported feature is unchanged.
- Local rules: verify the current speed limit and where privately owned e-scooters may legally be ridden in your area. The 2023 launch report said speed would be limited according to destination country. It also discussed a company pledge to pay customer fines in the UK; that historical promise is not legal advice or confirmation of current UK law.
- Fit and handling: consider whether the forward-facing twin-platform stance, wider layout and larger wheelbase suit your balance, storage space and carrying needs. The cited sources do not provide a controlled ride comparison against conventional e-scooters.
- Water and warranty terms: Taur’s FAQ states an IP55 rating and a two-year warranty, advises indoor storage for long periods, and says it does not recommend riding through deep standing water. These are manufacturer statements; the cited sources include no independent ingress-protection test report. Check the current warranty terms directly before purchase.
What the launch specifications do—and do not—tell you
The Taur II’s second generation retains the forward-facing premise while adding hardware and features around it. The 2023 launch account gives a useful snapshot of the advertised specification, but it does not supply independent performance testing, a safety study, owner interviews or a head-to-head comparison. In particular, the 26- and 39-mile figures should not be treated as measured real-world range, and a historical shipping estimate cannot answer whether a scooter is available today.
