The closest lower-priced alternatives to the Tata Punch EV are the Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV—but neither is an electric SUV. The Tiago is a conventional hatchback, while the Comet is a compact four-seat city car without DC fast charging. The Citroën eC3 offers more boot space than the Tiago, but costs more than the Punch EV’s listed entry price. If SUV shape or a longer claimed range matters most, the Punch EV itself remains the closest fit in this group.
Prices and specifications below are published figures for India as of 4 October 2026. Prices are ex-showroom unless noted; on-road totals, stock, variant equipment and offers vary by city and dealer. Certified or claimed range is not a promise of real-world distance.

Do not confuse an outright purchase price with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) headline. A BaaS plan lowers the stated vehicle price but adds a distance-based battery fee. CarDekho’s 2026 comparison gives base figures of ₹6.49 lakh plus ₹2.6/km for the Punch EV and ₹4.99 lakh plus ₹3.2/km for the Comet EV. Tata’s figure applies to the base Smart 30 variant, while MG offers BaaS across Comet variants, according to that comparison. MG’s current page lists its BaaS offer from ₹4.99 lakh plus ₹3.2/km. Confirm eligibility, tenure, fee and included equipment with the dealer before comparing total cost.

Which one fits your use?
Choose the Tiago EV for a lower-priced, conventional hatchback
The Tiago is the most straightforward alternative if you want a familiar hatchback layout, a lower entry price than the Punch EV and a choice of two battery sizes. Its listed 24 kWh version’s 285 km ARAI range is below the Punch EV 40 kWh’s 468 km figure, but above the Tiago’s smaller-pack figure. Autocar lists DC charging for the compared version, including a 10–80% time of 35 minutes on a 30 kW charger. Verify that the exact variant you are considering includes the charging capability and equipment you need.
Choose the Comet EV if a compact urban car is enough
The Comet’s small footprint and four seats suit buyers who value a compact city car more than SUV-like space or long-distance charging flexibility. MG’s stated 170–200 km real-world range estimate depends on traffic, air-conditioning use and driving style; it should not be treated as an independent road-test result. Its lack of DC fast charging is a meaningful trade-off if you expect to rely on public rapid chargers.

Consider the eC3 if extra cabin and luggage space justify the premium
Autocar lists the eC3’s boot at 315 litres, 75 litres more than the Tiago’s listed 240 litres, and its length at 3,981 mm, 156 mm more than the Tiago. Its listed 246 km ARAI range is lower than the 24 kWh Tiago EV’s 285 km. The eC3 is therefore a space-led stretch option, not a cheaper substitute for the Punch EV.
Keep the Punch EV if SUV form or a higher published range is central
The Punch EV is the only micro-SUV in this comparison. Tata.ev lists an ARAI-certified 468 km range for the 40 kWh version. CarDekho’s comparison marks the 30 kWh model’s 365–375 km figure as under certification, so do not treat that smaller-pack range as a certified figure based on this comparison.

How to make a fair shortlist
- Compare exact variants and prices. Separate outright ex-showroom prices from BaaS entry prices, then get a current on-road quote for your city. Equipment and offers can differ by trim and dealer.
- Match the body to your daily needs. The Tiago and eC3 are hatchbacks; the Comet is a four-seat city car; the Punch EV is a micro-SUV. Do not assume the lower-priced options provide the same space or versatility.
- Use range figures carefully. ARAI figures are certified claims, not guaranteed real-world distances. Consider your routes and charging access; MG’s real-world estimate for the Comet is the manufacturer’s estimate, not independent testing.
- Check charging by variant and equipment. The Comet has AC charging only. Autocar lists DC charging for the Tiago and eC3, but charging times depend on charger power and the battery’s starting and ending charge levels. Confirm the selected vehicle’s included equipment.
- Calculate BaaS for your expected use. A per-kilometre battery fee means the lowest headline price may not be the lowest total cost. Ask for the current fee, tenure, eligibility and contract terms, then compare against an outright purchase.
