The first TAG Heuer watch to pair the brand’s Heuer-01 movement with Senna design codes is the 2017 Carrera Heuer-01 Senna, reference CAR2A1L.BA0688. It was not TAG Heuer’s first Senna watch: the brand dates its first Senna Limited Edition to 1994.
What “first Heuer-01 Senna” means
TAG Heuer’s claim is specific: in 2017, the company paired its proprietary Heuer-01 movement with Senna design codes for the first time. That milestone concerns the movement and design pairing, not the start of the brand’s Senna watch history. TAG Heuer’s official Senna collector guide dates its first Senna Limited Edition to 1994 and traces subsequent Link, Carrera and Formula 1 editions.

The 2017 Carrera Heuer-01 Senna
The watch at the center of the claim is the Carrera Heuer-01 Senna, reference CAR2A1L.BA0688. TAG Heuer’s collector guide describes a 45 mm chronograph in black brushed steel with red details, a skeleton dial and a sapphire caseback. The brand’s current product page lists an automatic Calibre HEUER01 movement, black PVD-coated steel and ceramic construction, and 100 m water resistance; it labels the reference discontinued. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not an independent review.
Don’t confuse it with the Formula 1 Senna
Another Senna watch in TAG Heuer’s catalogue is the Formula 1 Senna, reference CAZ201D.BA0633. It is a different collection and model, not the 2017 Heuer-01 Carrera. TAG Heuer’s US product page identifies it as a 44 mm automatic Calibre 16 watch with a 48-hour power reserve and 200 m water resistance.

The Formula 1 edition has its own Senna-specific details. TAG Heuer’s 2022 brochure describes an anthracite sunray-brushed dial with Senna’s S, a ceramic tachymeter bezel bearing the Senna name, an engraved helmet on the caseback and a brushed steel bracelet in the signature S pattern. Those details belong to that Formula 1 special edition; they should not be assumed to describe every Senna watch.
