Formula 1 announced the role on January 6, 2025, as part of the championship’s 75th-anniversary year and the start of its ten-year Global Partnership with LVMH.
What TAG Heuer’s return means
TAG Heuer is the timekeeper Maison within Formula 1’s wider LVMH partnership. The designation establishes the brand’s championship-wide Official Timekeeper role; it does not, on the public details available, mean TAG Heuer replaced or took over operation of Formula 1’s underlying timing system. Formula 1’s announcement names the role, while LVMH’s partnership page describes a custom pit-lane clock synchronized with the official timing system and recalibrated before each race. The published descriptions do not identify who supplies or operates the championship’s timing infrastructure, or detail any technical changes made in 2025.
The wider agreement is a ten-year Global Partnership beginning in 2025. Formula 1 named Louis Vuitton, Moët Hennessy and TAG Heuer among the LVMH Maisons involved; TAG Heuer holds the timekeeper designation. Formula 1 announced the partnership on October 2, 2024.
TAG Heuer’s Formula 1 history
The 2025 appointment is a return to a previous championship role, not the beginning of the brand’s F1 connection. Formula 1 says Heuer’s logo first appeared on an F1 car in 1969 and that the brand became the first watch brand to sponsor an F1 team, Ferrari, in 1971. TAG Heuer previously served as Official Timekeeper from 1992 to 2003, according to Formula 1’s partner directory and TAG Heuer’s historical account.

Those team relationships and the timekeeper designation are related parts of the brand’s racing history, but they are different roles. Formula 1’s 2025 announcement also attributes accumulated team-association records to TAG Heuer: 230 wins, 595 podiums, 8,882 points, 11 World Constructors’ Championships and 14 World Drivers’ Championships. Those figures describe its team connections, not results produced by the new timekeeping partnership. Formula 1’s announcement provides the figures.
Related roles and the pit-lane clock
In 2025, TAG Heuer also became title partner of the Monaco Grand Prix and an Official Partner and Official Timekeeper of F1 Academy, according to LVMH’s partnership page. These are separate designations from its championship-wide Formula 1 timekeeper role.

LVMH describes the custom pit-lane clock as 1,200 mm in diameter and 35 kg. Those specifications refer to the trackside clock, not to a wristwatch or the underlying race timing equipment. The same page says the clock is synchronized with Formula 1’s official timing system and recalibrated before each race; it does not explain the system’s supplier or operator.

The timing of the return aligns with two larger milestones: Formula 1’s 75th-anniversary season in 2025 and the start of its ten-year LVMH partnership. At the announcement, Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali said, “I am delighted to welcome TAG Heuer as the Official Timekeeper of Formula 1 as they start the next stage of their long history in our sport.” TAG Heuer CEO Antoine Pin described the role as a fit for a sport defined by “mental resilience, physical strength, strategy, innovation and performance.”
