There is no universal winner: reviewer impressions favor Suzuki for composed handling and equipment, Yamaha for light, playful character, and— in one Australian shootout—Honda for the tester’s enjoyment and value balance. “Underrated” is best read as a question, not a proven measure of the Suzuki’s popularity: the available sources do not establish sales or market-share data.
What the comparisons actually establish
The GSX-8S is a sensible interpretation of “Suzuki’s underrated motorcycle” because it has been directly compared with both named rivals. That does not prove it is the only possible model intended. This article focuses on the GSX-8S, CB750 Hornet and MT-07; specifications and equipment can vary by model year and market, so check the exact local versions before buying.
The Australian Motorcycle News (AMCN) shootout covered 2023 models in Australia. Visordown’s GSX-8S-versus-MT-07 review supplies a separate set of specifications and riding impressions, and calls the Hornet a close rival. These are specific reviewers’ assessments, not controlled claims that one bike will suit every rider.
How the three bikes differ on the road
Suzuki GSX-8S: composed and confidence-inspiring
Visordown describes the GSX-8S as roomier and more composed than the MT-07, with suspension that is better sorted over rough surfaces. It also credits Suzuki with a stable, confidence-inspiring chassis. Suzuki GB’s compilation of launch-era reviews attributes this assessment to Visordown: “The GSX-8S is friendly from the get-go, torquey and engaging at realistic road speeds, with a chassis that inspires confidence no matter what you ask of it.” That is a reviewer’s impression, not a guarantee of fit or feel for every rider.

Yamaha MT-07: lighter and more playful
Visordown characterizes the MT-07 as lighter and more playful, with more low-rev engine character. That may appeal to a rider prioritizing an engaging feel in everyday riding over the Suzuki’s more composed manner. The same review finds the Yamaha less settled over rough pavement than the Suzuki.
Honda CB750 Hornet: a close alternative, not a settled winner
In the AMCN Australian comparison, the Honda and Suzuki finished just one point apart. The tester preferred the Honda for personal enjoyment and the features offered for its price, while describing Suzuki handling more favorably. Visordown places the Hornet’s suspension between the two: better sorted than the Yamaha’s, but not as plush as the Suzuki’s. Those conclusions reflect the reviewers’ criteria and the tested bikes.

Engine specifications and standard equipment
Visordown reports the following figures for the GSX-8S and MT-07 in the specifications it compared. Treat them as source-reported specifications, not a guarantee for every year or country.
| Model | Engine | Power | Torque | Equipment noted by Visordown |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Suzuki GSX-8S | 776cc parallel twin | 82bhp at 8,500rpm | 60lb-ft (78Nm) at 6,800rpm | Selectable riding modes, traction control and standard up/down quickshifter in the reviewed specification |

| Honda CB750 Hornet | Not stated in the cited comparison sources | Not stated in the cited comparison sources | Not stated in the cited comparison sources | Not stated in the cited comparison sources |
The table reflects Visordown’s reported comparison, not a model-year-independent equipment list. Confirm engine figures, quickshifter fitment and rider-aid availability for the specific year, trim and market you are considering.

Prices: use the test figures as history, not a quote
AMCN reported these approximate ride-away prices for its 2023 Australian comparison. They are publication-era figures, not current offers or a reliable guide to today’s used-bike values.
| 2023 model in AMCN’s Australian context | Reported ride-away price |
|---|---|
| Honda CB750 Hornet | About A$13,500 |
| Suzuki GSX-8S | A$14,190 |
| Yamaha MT-07 | A$14,449 |
Visordown described the Hornet as cheaper than the Suzuki in its UK context at the time of publication, but that historical comparison does not establish today’s price gap. For a purchase decision, compare current local ride-away quotes for the same model year and account for registration, delivery, accessories and any included equipment.

- High-quality license plate bracket made from black powder-coated steel for durability and weather resistance

Which one makes sense for your riding?
- Choose the GSX-8S as your leading test ride if composed handling, a more settled response on rough roads, and the reviewed Suzuki’s rider aids and quickshifter matter most. Confirm those features are fitted to the version sold locally.
- Put the MT-07 high on your list if you value a lighter, playful feel and the low-rev character Visordown noted. Ride it on the surfaces and at the speeds you use most, especially if rough-road comfort is a priority.
- Test the CB750 Hornet alongside the Suzuki if value and personal enjoyment are decisive. In AMCN’s 2023 Australian test, its reviewer favored the Honda on those grounds while rating Suzuki handling more highly; current prices and equipment may change the calculation.
Seat height alone cannot establish which bike will fit you comfortably. Try each in person if possible: check reach to the bars and controls, foot placement at a stop, steering effort at low speed, and how relaxed you feel in your usual riding position.

How to make a fair local comparison
- Match versions: compare the same model year where possible, and identify the market and trim for each bike.
- Verify equipment: ask the dealer or consult the local specification for riding modes, traction control and quickshifter fitment rather than assuming the reviewed configuration applies.
- Get like-for-like prices: request current ride-away totals, with registration and delivery treatment made clear.
- Ride your real route: include slow turns, ordinary commuting speeds, rough pavement and—where legal and safe—a faster flowing section. Note comfort, engine response, stability and confidence separately.
- Decide by your priorities: weigh the experience you prefer against the actual local price and equipment, rather than treating a reviewer’s points total as a universal verdict.
