Sussex’s “world’s first” wording is not independently established by the available evidence: the company’s February 2026 announcement describes it more narrowly as the UK’s first Kia PV5 campervan conversion.
What is the Sussex Campervans Kia PV5 Kingfisher?
Kingfisher is Sussex Campervans’ pop-top camper conversion based on Kia’s electric PV5. Kia describes the PV5 as a configurable Platform Beyond Vehicle built on its E-GMP.S architecture, with Passenger and Cargo variants. Sussex presents the Kingfisher as a campervan conversion rather than a separate Kia factory model. Is it really the world’s first Kia PV5 camper?
That global claim is not verified by the evidence available. A Sussex Campervans announcement dated February 27, 2026 calls the conversion the “UK’s first” Kia PV5 campervan conversion. That is a company claim in a press-release distribution page, not independent proof that no earlier conversion existed elsewhere. What does the range figure mean in camper use?
The advertised “up to 258 miles” is a WLTP figure, not a reliable trip-distance guarantee. Kia UK also lists up to 258 miles WLTP for the PV5 Cargo, but says real-world range can be reduced by driving style, speed, outside temperature, topography and electrical-device use. Those qualifications matter particularly in a camper, where the conversion and use of onboard electrical equipment can affect how far a charge takes you. Charging information
Kia UK says the PV5 Cargo can charge from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes using DC charging. This is a manufacturer-stated approximate time, not a guarantee for every charger or journey: Kia notes that charging time depends on battery temperature and weather. Do not confuse the record drive with normal range
Kia reports that a PV5 drove 693.38 km (430.85 miles) on one charge with maximum payload in a Guinness World Record run. That is a separate record test, not the WLTP figure and not evidence of the distance a camper conversion will routinely cover. Kia’s award announcement describes the record.

- Ask what the quoted on-the-road price includes, and whether any options or delivery-related costs are additional.
- Confirm the exact scope of the advertised seven-year warranty for the Kia vehicle and conversion, including exclusions and claim arrangements. Kia separately lists an eight-year/100,000-mile battery warranty; that is distinct from Sussex’s advertised seven-year package warranty. Kia UK’s page is the source for its battery-warranty figure.
- Request the full conversion specification: sleeping capacity, roof and bed arrangement, seat configuration, interior layout and which camping equipment is included.
- Check the lowered-roof height and overall dimensions against your garage, storage space and intended car parks; confirm how Sussex measures them and whether fitted options change them.
- For a planned route, check real charging stops and allow for conditions that can lower range or lengthen charging time.
What awards say—and what they don’t
Kia says the PV5 won the 2026 International Van of the Year award, decided by commercial-vehicle journalists from 26 countries. This is recognition of the PV5 van, not an independent assessment of Sussex’s camper conversion.
