Three verified model lines clear 10,000 rpm: Gordon Murray Automotive’s T.50, T.33 and T.33 Spider, and Aston Martin’s road-going Valkyrie. Their manufacturers state maximum engine speeds of 12,100 rpm for the T.50 and 11,100 rpm for the T.33 family and road Valkyrie. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not results from a common independent test. The list focuses on those verified examples, including a track-focused T.50 derivative; it is not an exhaustive history of every qualifying car.
Verified supercars with a maximum engine speed above 10,000 rpm
“Supercar” has no single technical boundary, and some cars on this list are commonly described as hypercars or specialist low-volume cars. The useful comparison is the stated maximum engine speed of each engine, not a broad claim about every car that might fit a label.
| Make and model | Engine and aspiration | Manufacturer-stated maximum rpm | Peak power | Variant and source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gordon Murray Automotive T.50 | 3.9-litre Cosworth GMA V12; naturally aspirated | 12,100 rpm redline | 670 PS at 11,000 rpm | Road car; GMA’s 2020 reveal and current model page. 2020 reveal; model page. |
| Gordon Murray Automotive T.33 and T.33 Spider | 3.9-litre GMA.2 V12; naturally aspirated | 11,100 rpm limit | 617 PS at 10,250 rpm | Road coupe and Spider; figures on GMA’s official T.33 and T.33 Spider pages. |
| Aston Martin Valkyrie | 6.5-litre V12; naturally aspirated | 11,100 rpm maximum in Aston Martin’s 2018 engine announcement | 1,000 bhp at 10,500 rpm for the V12 alone | Road-car engine specification; Aston Martin’s 2018 V12 announcement. |
The T.50 has the highest stated maximum rpm among these verified examples. That is a scoped comparison, not a universal record claim: establishing a global highest-revving supercar would require a wider inventory and consistent rules about which vehicles and variants count.
Maximum rpm is not peak-power rpm
A maximum rpm or redline describes the upper engine-speed limit stated for a specification. Peak-power rpm is the speed at which the manufacturer says the engine produces its maximum power. They are different figures: the T.50’s stated 12,100 rpm redline is above its 11,000 rpm peak-power point, while the T.33’s 11,100 rpm limit is above its 10,250 rpm peak-power point. The Valkyrie V12’s stated maximum is 11,100 rpm, and its quoted 1,000 bhp peak occurs at 10,500 rpm.

For an apples-to-apples comparison, check the exact engine and variant, maximum engine speed, peak-power speed, output units, and whether the quoted power belongs to the engine alone or the whole hybrid system. Manufacturer specifications establish what each company publishes; they do not by themselves establish that every delivered car has been independently measured to that speed.
What the Valkyrie’s hybrid figure means
Aston Martin separately announced a combined Valkyrie hybrid-system maximum of 1,160 bhp at 10,500 rpm and combined torque of 900 Nm at 6,000 rpm. Those are system figures, not the output of the 6.5-litre V12 alone. The earlier engine announcement lists 1,000 bhp at 10,500 rpm for the V12. Keep the two outputs distinct when comparing Valkyrie figures with the non-hybrid GMA engines. Aston Martin’s 2019 hybrid-powertrain announcement.

Variant labels can change the answer
A model name does not guarantee that every version has the same rpm limit. Road cars, track derivatives and race cars can use different calibrations or be constrained by their intended use and regulations.
- T.50s Niki Lauda: GMA lists its track-focused T.50 derivative at 12,100 rpm on the T.50 model page.
- Valkyrie race program: Aston Martin’s 2025 road-to-track announcement says the standard road-going engine revs to 11,000 rpm in the context of a modified lean-burn race version. That differs slightly from the 11,100 rpm maximum in the company’s 2018 V12 announcement; the figures belong to different announcements and contexts, so they should not be silently treated as identical. Aston Martin’s 2025 announcement.
- Valkyrie LM: Aston Martin’s model page lists 8,400 rpm for this regulation-limited track model, so it does not qualify on that published figure. It should not be conflated with the road Valkyrie’s engine specification.
Why these engines can spin so high
All three entries use naturally aspirated V12 engines. That shared architecture helps explain why these manufacturers emphasize free-revving character, but displacement or cylinder count alone does not establish an engine’s safe or stated maximum speed; the limit is specific to the engine design and calibration.

Gordon Murray described the desired character of the T.50 engine this way: “To be truly remarkable, an engine needs to have the right characteristics: highly responsive, an amazing sound, engaging torque delivery, free-revving, and it has to be naturally aspirated.” The statement is attributed to Professor Gordon Murray CBE in GMA’s T.50 reveal.
